We interviews Gautami Kapoor on her return to small screen

Coming back to television after a period of six years post Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi on Star Plus, Gautami Kappor is essaying the role of Shruti- Ami’s (Ulka Gupta) mother in Zee TV’s Khelti Hai Zindagi Aankh Micholi (Essel Vision) that launched yesterday on 9 September (2013).

Commenting on her character, Gautami says, “I play the role of an average Indian housewife. She is an enthusiastic and a lively woman who wants to do her best for her family and children. When her husband dies, she dons a dual role of a home-maker and also a breadwinner.”

Being a mother of two children in real life (she is married to actor Ram Kapoor), how does she relate herself to the character she is playing in Aankh Micholi ? “It’s like home for me; I am playing the same role here as I play at home; there is absolutely no difference,” she answers.

When we ask about how it feels to return back to TV after a long break, she avers, “Actually, from the last two years I was waiting to sign something and my husband Ram kept advising me not to sign anything in a rush as he was of the opinion that there was something better coming my way! When I was approached for this script, I couldn’t wait to sign it!”

She also reveals that she was never offered a role in Pavitra Rishta (Zee TV) but if she had been, she would have loved to take it up.

Khelti Hai Zindagi Aankh Micholi (Zee TV) will see Gautami’s character Shruti balancing life being a single parent of two children. The story will later proceed to show Shruti too contracting HIV via her husband.
