“We haven’t taken up new work due to Nach Baliye”: Jay
The handsome anchor, actor and now dancer, Jay Bhanushali talks about anchoring, dance and working with his wife, Mahhi Vij…
After Jhalak, how does it feel to be back on a dance reality show?
It really feels great to be back as a contestant. I did Jhalak 5 years ago but didn’t get a chance to perform the way I have in Nach Baliye 5. People are appreciating my performances and we are also scoring high.
Anchoring a reality show or participating-what do you prefer?
Frankly speaking, anchoring is better than participating. At first when I was offered Nach I was hesitant about doing the show. I took it up for Mahhi as she was extremely excited about it. When it comes to anchoring, one has a lot of free time as there are no rehearsals or competition pressure. If I had to choose one, I would choose anchoring. I enjoy the fun and spontaneity of anchoring and I am made out for it. However, I am also currently enjoying the challenge of being part of Nach Baliye as each week is a new learning experience.
Your favourite act in your previous reality show Jhalak?
I don’t have that judging instinct inside me. Plus I was never a hardcore professional dancer. In fact, I have never liked any of my own performances and perhaps because I was quite young at that time.
According to you which jodi is your toughest competitor?
I don’t take it as a competition. Elimination doesn’t affect me. I haven’t taken up Nach Baliye to be a part of a competition but instead to gain a new experience. Nach is about learning for me!
Its the first time you are getting to work with your wife Mahhi. How is it working with her?
It is a superb experience to be working with your partner. Normally she’s busy with her work and I am busy with mine and so we are hardly left with time for each other. However, now we are getting to spend a lot of time together. She is a very hard working girl and it’s a lot of fun working with her.
Who is a better dancer- You or Mahhi?
I really can’t choose. I feel we both are hard working dancers. Dancing is not at all built in our body and so we are just working hard.
Recently some contestants have been unhappy that they have to balance two shows while you guys just have Nach, what do you want to say on that?
No offense intended to any of the contestants but frankly speaking Mahhi and I were both offered many shows. However, we haven’t taken up any new work due to Nach Baliye as we want to concentrate on just this right now. We are giving our full dedication to our newly discovered passion of dance. We are giving our 100% towards learning dance, rehearsing and performing every week and trying to make the most of the opportunity we have in hand.
