Vikram, my character in Bade Achhe, is very calm and patient, just like I am in real life – Jai Kalra
Ram (Ram Kapoor) and Priya’s (Sakshi Tanwar) scenes are very endearing in Sony Entertainment Television’s Bade Achhe Lagte Hain (Balaji Telefilms). As they are the protagonists, obviously the focus is on them. The creative team has etched out all romantic relationships beautifully. That indeed includes the close and understanding marital bond between Vikram Shergill (Jai Kalra) and Neha (Tarana Raja).
Jai avers that he shares an excellent and understanding professional bond with Tarana. As the same is translated to the screen, their reel scenes turn out to be sweet and spontaneous. He informs us, “Tarana and I bonded very well from the very first day. We hit it off from the very day we went for our character narrations. We aren’t co-actors who are competing with one another but friends. Both of us are honest and sincere workers. As we share such a healthy relationship, we can perform so well together.”
Vikram and Neha’s marriage has seen tumultuous times and have overcome all hurdles as of now. What is his take on that? “Vikram is around 35 to 40 years of age. He hails from the old school of thought when it comes to marriage. He is a firm believer in the institute of marriage and feels that a couple should try hard to make a marriage work. In real life I feel the same way. I however feel that if it’s a very extreme case like an abusive partner who won’t rectify himself, it is better to end the marriage.”
Did the viewers prefer the phase when trouble was brewing in their marriage? Jai is of the opinion, “At the end of the day, we are after all hopeless romantics who want happy endings. For the need of the story, reel marriages do need to go through twists and turns including rough patches. Ultimately the couple overcomes all hurdles to emerge victorious.”
Vikram was Ram’s love coach. Is he also the love coach to his friends in real life? He replies, “I may not exactly be a love coach to friends but they do reach out to me when they need advice. I am not a fair weather friend but a rough weather friend. I also reach out to friends when I need advice.”
What does he like the best about Vikram? He replies, “Vikram is very calm and patient, just like I am in real life.”
Vikram and Ram’s on screen scenes are very pleasing too. How does Jai bond with Ram Kapoor? “We had both done a movie called Love U…Mr. Kalakaar. He had played my boss in the movie. We soon became friends. Our friendship has been carried on till the current date. We have lunch together. Our strong friendly bond in real life is carried forward in reel life too. In fact me, Ram, Tarana and Sakshi- all four of us share a good rapport which in turn makes our scenes spontaneous and real.”
What will Jai’s dream role be like? He ponders, “I get very fascinated by men in uniform. I would have loved to play the role of Abhimanyu Rai which Shah Rukh Khan played in Fauji and of Karan Shergill which Hrithik Roshan played in Lakshya. I had wanted to be a soldier once and have high regard for the Indian armed forces. I have relatives in the army.”
What kind of role would he never do? “I would never do a role in which I have to play a rapist or maybe someone who is abusive (like a wife beater).”
We wish Jai all the best in his career. For more updates on the show please keep watching this space.
