“TV is a big platform to showcase your talent but my final destination is films.”
says Karan Sharma, the actor with chocolate boy looks as he talks about his character in Ek Nayi Pehchaan and how he ultimately wants to do Hindi films.
Karan Sharma who plays the mischievous Karan Modi in Ek Nayi Pehchaan on Sony TV can’t stop grinning these days as he gears up to receive compliments from all. “The response to the show has been good because the storyline line and direction is very good. Our director gets work done from us and people are liking it,” says Karan who is more than happy playing Karan Modi in the show. “I am happy that there are so many variations to the character I am portraying and it is not someone who has lots of tashan or is an aakhdoo. As Karan Modi I have to sometimes be scared of my father while at the same love his mother, make a fool of my wife played by Krystle Dsouza and also do time pass with friends so there are so many shades to the character that I am having a good time as an actor.”
So is he in control of the character which has so many shades? “No, I am still taking time to understand the character. He is a guy who gets married against his wishes and apart from him everyone around seems to be happy, and he will not melt to so easily and even if he shows also that he is melting it is just to fool others and later he will go back to his mischievous ways. He loves his mom very much and will do anything for her and is scared of his dad. He wants to do much more but cannot since things are not working as per his plan so he is still planning as to what he can do.”
Is he the same in real life? Does he share any similarities to his character in real life? “In real life I am like Karan Modi since I too love my mom and have a similar relation with her but I don’t fear about my dad so much but do have lots of respect for him. Also in real life, I am not so mischievous and know what I want to do in life and how I will achieve it whereas Karan Modi doesn’t know all this so there is a very little similarity between us.”
However, in real life he is quite friendly with co-star Kryslte says Karan, “Krystle & Poonam Dhillon both are very good and co-operative. As soon as I reach the sets I go and wish Poonamji with a Hi mom, how are you? Poonamji has the same bubbliness like she had in her earlier films and she looks cute and young even now. Krystle too is a very nice girl and I never felt that she had any kind of attitude despite the fact that she has been around for so long on TV. I find Krystle to be very cool and a nice co-star to work with. We share a very comfortable equation and we clicked very immediately when we met and started chatting like old friends.”
Karan also wants to clarify that the information given under his name in Wikipedia is somewhat wrong and they have confused him with someone else. Not only is it mentioned there that he is taller than film star Amitabh Bachchan there are also names of films he has done. “I am a big fan of Amitabh Bachchan and have seen almost all his films but no I am not taller than him. My bio-data in Wiki is wrong and it is some other Karan Sharma they have confused me with. I started off with the serial Jyoti and then went on to do Pyaar Ka Bandhan and Pavitra Rishta but I have never done films so far but want to do them and I am waiting for a good opportunity.”
He is slowly working towards his goal and was recently seen in an ad film with Kareena Kapoor, “I am being seen in the I-ball mobile ad with Kareena Kapoor and people are liking us and telling me that we look good together on screen. I am feeling very excited since I am seeing myself at that level and if I can look good while sharing screen space in an ad with Kareena then I can do it on a bigger level too and look good. I am working towards it because TV is a big platform to showcase your talent but the final destination is films and I have had talks with one or two good production houses who have liked me. I thought let me build some fan following on TV and then do films.”
Till then his fans can get to watch him daily on Television. All the best, Karan!
