“This Ramadaan I’m missing my home” : Salman Yusuf Khan
Choreographer turned actor Salman Yusuf Khan is missing his family and home during this holy month of Ramadaan…
A blend of good looks and talent, choreographer turned actor Salman Yusuf Khan, is currently seen grooving with his dancing partner Drashti Dhami on Colors dance reality show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa: Dancing with the Stars. Needless to say, week after week, this Jodi is setting the stage on fire with their power-packed performances.
In conversation with us, we found that Salman is fasting religiously this Ramadaan, despite being surrounded by tough competitors…
Lets see how Salman copes with the fasting month and what are his plans for Eid…
What are your thoughts on the Holy month Ramadan?
It’s the most important month of the year for me. It’s this time of the year that I rejuvenate my thought process, so that I can become a better person and be able to impress Allah.
Are you fasting for the entire month?
Alhumdulillah I do keep fast every year but this month unfortunately I had to give up on 2 days of fasting due to health issues, but Insha Allah I will compensate for it after Eid.
How is this Ramadan different from any other year?
This Ramadan I’m missing home more than usual. It’s the ambiance, the scent at home, my loved ones, the mosque I won’t be able to go to this year that I’m missing a lot.
Even after keeping all the Roza, you are never low on your performance, what is the secret?
It’s mind over matter. For me when I started fasting as a child, it was religion. However, now I understand it teaches us discipline as well. If I can gain control over thirst and hunger then I can control my will to any extent.
How are you able to manage your Sehri and Iftaar, despite the day-night rehearsals?
Unfortunately my cook is absconding for quite a while now and I’m not able to find a good replacement. So it’s been even more difficult this season managing Sheri and Iftar with the odd rehearsal times.
What inspires you to be strong and keep moving?
My prayers and my family, with them by my side there is no stopping me.
Ramadan is an opportunity to step back from the limelight for some much needed reflection. It is said that during Ramadan, you are not supposed to touch women and abstain yourself from films, songs and television, how does it work for you?
For me, this life and religion is nothing but intentions. For example, I can dance with a half nude women and still not have bad thought or intention about her. On the other hand, you can just look at any woman and fantasize wrongly about her, which is as equal to exploiting her without her consent. And when it comes to intentions, I know Allah knows all so I don’t really have much to prove to anyone in this world.
Do you have any plans for this Eid?
During Eid, I want to be with my family. So I might just call everyone here.
