Talented actor Raj Kumar who plays Kamdev Baba in Zee TV’s Gangs of Haseepur talk about his character
Playing one of the most talked about ‘babas’ of the nation on Zee TV’s Gangs of Hasseepur – Mr. Rajkumar Prashad says that there was a lot of struggle involved in reaching where he stands today. Starting his journey almost 6 years ago with the impersonation of Baba Ramdev, Rajkumar now has perfected mimicking a lot of other famous personalities actors such as Nana Patekar, Paresh Rawal and Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Talking about his journey he said, “A few years ago I heard about a show that was auditioning fresh talent. Being a resident of Jamshedpur, I took a few days off and traveled to Mumbai to audition for the role and to my surprise, I was glad to have bagged the role.” When asked about his knack of mimicking personalities, he said, “I used to mimic my teachers and my principal in school and my friends used to love it. Slowly I started observing all these actors I would see on Television and mimic their styles of acting as well. I started with Nana Patekar and slowly moved on to mimicking others as well. Before I knew it, I was bitten by the acting bug and knew this was what I wanted to do to make a living.” Having lost his father really early in life, and him being the eldest kid in the house, he has come a long way from fending for the entire house to now making a living for his family.
Currently working as an RJ in his hometown – Jamshedpur, he has a show dedicated to himself where he mimics various local famous personalities on the show. He is also affiliated with a theatre group called Jharkhand Sanskritik Manch’ and has won a lot of National Awards for best stand up comedian. Being a Commerce graduate, Prashad dreams of making it big in the TV industry someday. Hoping to get a daily soap soon, he vies to make it big in Bollywood as well but wants to take it one step at a time.
