Speaking of the inspiration behind the play, Sachin says, “Through social networking and internet the world has become closer but the distance between family members has increased. Most reality shows on TV have a negative impact on TV. In my play a reality show aims to create a positive impact on society by bringing together families by re-uniting family members who have become aloof from one another. The family members of the Sharma family become participants of this reality show.”
Vibha Anand who plays Shruti Sharma, a modern college going girl who is immersed in the world of gadgets and is continuously chatting with her buddies on social networking formus, admits that she is quite like Shruti in real life. She owns up, “My dad advises me to keep my phone away from myself at least when I sleep at night. Now, that I am doing this play I am realising on what we are losing out on by being a gadget freak and I am trying to de-addict myself.”
Piyush Ranade plays the son Rahul Sharma who is a struggling actor who wants to gain fame and recognition as a Bollywood star. Speaking on his character he says, “Nobody supports Rahul’s celluloid dreams. He needs money to make his portfolio. All the family members are emotionally estranged. Not just the youth but all age groups will be able to identify with Rahul’s struggle.”
Aanjjan Shrivastav plays the father Hari Prasad Sharma, the head of a middle class family who is struggling to make both ends meet. He told us, “My character just has two years left for retirement. He has distanced from his wife who is a sweet and homely lady. His family’s life takes an unexpected turn when all of them start participating in a reality show.”
Prarthana Behre plays the role of a glamorous girl called Sara who appears in the play in the third scene but her real identify is revealed in the penultimate scene. Prarthana told us, “My character disturbs the Shrama family and pulls the legs of its family members.”
We tried contacting Reema Lagoo plays the mother Radhika Sharma, a loving housewife who wants the family to be together and communicate with one another. Her mobile was switched off as she was busy with rehearsals, which is why we were unable to speak to her. She returns to theatre after 20 years.
Rishton Ka Live Telecast will be hilarious instead of preachy. Sachin is also working on another show which he is producing. We will update you on that as soon as he is ready to talk about it.
