Hospital
Shukla manages to trick the guard yet again and is about to gain entry into Swetha’s room, when he is stopped by a hand on his shoulder – it was professor Janardhan!
Watching the horror on Shukla’s face Janardhan enquires wryly ‘What’s the matter? Why do you look like you’ve just been caught stealing?’
The defensive Shukla tries to cover up for his deeds and his expressions, stuttering and stammering nervously. He then springs a similar query on his colleague ‘And what about you? what are you doing here now?’
‘I was worried for Swetha’s well being…I have to submit a report to the enquiry committee soon…so, I thought I’ll come over personally and see how the security arrangements are…’ Janardhan replies
Commending his colleague for his sincerity, Shukla takes his cue from Janardhan’s explanations to shift the focus away from himself ‘Good! First of all..fire this security personnel from here…whenever I’ve visited, he’s never been around!’
Muttering a few rebukes at the innocent guard, Shukla makes his disappearance just as quietly as he’d come.
‘But you haven’t even met Swetha yet?’ Janardhan reminds the departing man
‘Now that you’re here…you’ll handle everything well’ Shukla says, just before scooting off
Janardhan grows suspicious of Shukla’s statements – If Shukla mentioned that the security was absent on many occasions, it only meant Shukla had also been visiting Swetha frequently!
‘I have to find out what this man is up to’ Janardhan ponders
Mathur’s
Sanchi is about to have her dinner at the dining table, when she lets her not-so-pleased parents know that she was inviting Indu over too. With little say in the matter, they glare in anger, as Sanchi leads the young man into the hall. Casually seating himself at the table, Indu helps himself to some water. Once Sanchi sits beside him, Indu then modestly nods at Tarachand, inviting him to join them too. However, the parents only return his gesture with stern silence – the disapproval and resentment on their faces very evident.
Serving himself some food, Indu asks Sanchi in a mocking tone ‘Whats the problem? Is there a ‘maun vrat’ going on? Or has everyone been jolted by the very sight of my face?’
Embarrasssed by his questions, Sanchi requests him to remain quiet, aware of her parents’ growing irritation.
Soon after, Indu peeks through the contents of a vessel and comments candidly ‘Oh what’s this…only dal and rice?’
‘We only have dal and rice’ Tarachand replies abrutly
In a bid to silence Indu, Sanchi cautions him rudely ‘This is my house…not your den, where you’ll get everything according to your wish’ anxious about her parents’ reactions, the girl berates him ‘Anyway my mother has made my favourite dish…so, if you want to eat, eat…or else starve’
‘No…no its not like I eat only non-veg…I love vegetarian food too…’ Indu mentions, trying to pacify their hurt sentiments ‘And all this is my favourite – dal, vegetables, rice’ he pauses coyly ‘Sanchi! The almighty has aptly chosen us to be a pair…we have similar likes too…’
While Veena becomes appalled by his surmises, Sanchi grits her teeth ‘What do I need to do to shut you up?’
Having successfully remained quiet for a brief while, Indu once again proceeds to relish the food ‘Mmm…Wow…its really tasty…’ having now eaten to his fill, the frank man then looks up to his mother-in-law and pays her a strange compliment ‘There was no chicken or mutton in the menu today, but the dishes were really tasty’
Indicating to his palms, he then enquires ‘By the way, how am I supposed to wash my hands?’
Watching Veena’s irate frowns, Indu swiftly comprehends the delicate situation and strolls away from the table by himself. Meanwhile, Sanchi helps her mother clear the table, an awkward silence hanging around the room all through.
Soon after, Indu re-emerges from the washroom, unwittingly wiping his hands on a kitchen towel. Becoming the target of yet another bout of accusation, Indu tries to justify himself ‘How am I to know..as though the towel would identify itself to me…’
‘Fine come with me..’ Sanchi calms herself down ‘I’ll get you another towel…and show you your room too…’
Just as the pair are about to leave, Veena curtly orders Sanchi ‘Once you’ve finished with everything, come to meet me…I have something important to talk to you about’
Indu needs no hints to guess what their topic of discussion would be about.
Tarachand’s room
Veena and Tarachand are not happy to provide shelter to a ruffian like Indu who’d ruined their daughter’s life
‘However this time,it was my fault… I didn’t believe him…and ended up sending him to jail…’ Sanchi tries convincing them
‘Well he deserves it’ Tarachand argues, proceeding to remind her of all Indu had done to them in the past
‘But he did save my life too’ Sanchi clarifies, attempting to garner support for her partner.
Though Tarachand finds it difficult to accept the reality, he faithfully lends his support to Sanchi. However, Veena is dismayed by the whole proposition.
Sanchi talks to her mother, continuing to wield her skills of persuasion ‘Even I’ve been entrapped in this case just like Indu Singh… we both need each other’s help…’ she pauses ‘Ma…only till the case gets solved.. and then we both will be parting ways anyway… so please just allow him to stay here for a few more days…please…’
‘Do whatever you want to do…I don’t like any of this…and none of this seems right’ her mother retorts and storms away
Indu’s room – next morning
With soulful music playing the background, we get to see the adorable profile of Indu Singh sleeping on his comfortable bed. Slowly waking up to beams of sunlight invading the window, a refreshed man sits up – the first thing he notices are the pangs of pain throbbing around his left arm and right palm.
Stretching his arm and dabbing his palm, he tries to get rid of his stiffness, when he hears Veena calling out to Sanchi in another part of the house. Smiling to himself, he jumps off the bed to freshen himself up.
Just as he’d finished styling his (wild) hair and walked towards the door to exit his room, he bumps into Sanchi. She was carrying a tray with his breakfast and the corner of the tray had hit his arm.
‘Sorry…sorry…what…what happened’ panics Sanchi as Indu retreats, wincing in pain
He looks up at her and smiles mischeivously ‘As long as you’re there..what could happen to me? Anywyay…I was coming down myself…why did you have to take the trouble?’
Sanchi stares with a guilty frown ‘You can’t dine with us henceforth…you’ll have to eat here – alone…’
Though momentarily taken aback, he then acknowledges her message with a pleasant smile ‘I know…your mother doesn’t like me staying here…’
‘Please don’t be very finicky…’ she advices him ‘This is not a hotel…manage with what we’re providing…’
He nods his head in agreement and then goes to pick up the lid off a vessel when he’s forced to instantly drop it back – the smarting in his palm too painful to neglect.
The worried girl steps up to Indu, asking him to show the wound to her. However, he resists her concerned requests, hiding his injuries from Her. Compelled to forcefully grab his palm, Sanchi examines the wound on his palm and his arm, and then glares at Indu unhappily.
‘It’s only an ordinary wound…’ he belittles the nature of his injuries ‘They will heal with time’
‘There you go..being an ignorant fool again…’ she chides him ‘If you don’t treat such wounds on time.. it might lead to an amputation..’
Pleasantly surprised by the shower of concern, Indu observes how Sanchi had started fretting and how she rushed about to arrange for some medicines for him.
Tiwari’s
Sushil and Anita are playing ludo, when Tarachand comes there and interrupts their game with a few snide remarks.
He drags his brother to the terrace and orders him to keep an eye on the Mathur mansion for any sign of Sanchi – be it day and night.
‘Noon and night?’ The lazy bones Sushil whines ‘Standing out all noon would tan me’.
However, his rebuttals are expectedly squashed. Tarachand once again warns him to stay vigilant and report on any information with regards to Sanchi.
Indu’s room
Eating his food peacefully, Indu steals a few stern glances at Sanchi – noticing that she was probably not too happy to be waiting upon him. No sooner, than he finishes his last morsel, the restless girl rushes to him to ensure he needed nothing more. Seeing how Sanchi was impatient to leave, Indu quietly nods his head in the negative.
Just then the phone rings, making the pair alert. Perusing for a few moments, Sanchi attends to the call – it was Mehek. The friend had wanted to reconfirm the medicines and dressing Sanchi had required.
Co-incidentally, Tiwari is also at the same pharmacy talking over the phone, unnoticed by Mehek.
When the pharmacist comes over to Mehek to inform her that the painkiller was not available, she calls back Sanchi to let her know. The name ‘Sanchi’ mentioned during this phone conversation alerts Tiwari and the man becomes intrigued. Once Mehek leaves the pharmacy Tiwari decides to follow her and walks out of the shop, thus trailing the unaware girl for a while. However, when the engrossed Tiwari ends up bumping into another passerby, the commotion raised forewarns Mehek. Taking advantage of the brewing brawl in the street, Mehek manages to slip away from his view.
Sanchi’s room
Probably not knowing how to kill time, a chirpy Indu Singh enters Sanchi’s room in search of her. However, not finding her there, he walks up to her desk. Paying the photo of his in-laws their due compliments, he approaches Sanchi’s photo.
‘Now..this is how a smile should be’ he says, as he picks the frame ‘I wonder if I could smile like this too?’
Taking the picture, he holds it beside his face and views himself in the mirror. For a few seconds he tries emulating the smile that Sanchi’s picture portrayed, only making him appear sillier.
‘Wow! What to say’ he concedes to Sanchi’s photo ‘When I smile it looks like I’m mourning someone’s death…and your smile looks like a shower of flowers!’
Just then the main door bell rings and Indu reverts to his wary self. Placing the picture back he walks out of the room to the inner balcony in order to watch the visitor.
Hall
When Veena apprehensively opens the door, Sanchi is startled to find a shaken and nervous Mehek standing there ‘What happened?’
‘I’ve faced a lot of hurdles coming here.’ Mehek explains
‘What happened..you seem really frightened…’ Sanchi runs to fetch her exasperated friend a glass of water
‘Sadanand Tiwari spotted me and started following me… I tried my best and eventually got rid of him…’
The mention of his uncle’s name sends Indu into into a worried dilemma, till he is interrupted by Veena’s irate frustrations ‘I told you all…that there’s no need to let that boy stay here..but you wouldn’t listen…now I don’t know what more you’ll have to face…’
‘Nothing of the sort will happen’ sanchi tries pacifying her mother ‘Please don’t worry’
Having overheard what Sanchi’s mother had to say about him, Indu is pained. The hurt man fidgets around for a moment and then walks away.
Turning to Mehek, Sanchi thanks her for the timely help. Bidding her friend farewell, Sanchi reminds the girl to ensure she stayed hidden as she exited the house.
Loyally nodding her head in accordance, Mehek leaves the house after wishing Sanchi luck.
However, despite Mehek making a quick inspection of her surroundings and leaving secretively, her depature is caught by the makeshift detective – Sushil
‘When her friend is not here, then why did she have to come here…there’s something suspicious going on…’ Sushil concludes
Indu’s room
‘Here take the medicne…’ sanchi mentions, as she removes the tablet from its packaging
‘I don’t want it…medicines are bitter’ Indu sulks, looking away
‘They might be bitter…but they’re for your good’ Sanchi tells him sternly. Taking his palm she thumps the tablet in his hand and walks over to fetch him some water.
‘Since when did you start thinking about my well being?’ Indu questions her gently ‘Anyway, your mother is right…I am the biggest calamity to befall you…’
Hearing his admission, Sanchi feels guilty as she pours the water into the glass.
While she returns to him with the glass, Indu reiterates his point ‘If there is one trouble in your life thats me – Indu Singh’
‘Please don’t feel bad about my mother’s words…and anyway… the things you’ve done…the way you’ve behaved in the past…anyone would have such an impression of you…’
‘If my behaviour was bad…then stop showing me such false pity’ he replies disheartened
‘I’m doing it in the name of humanity’
‘I don’t need such sympathy…I’ll do it all myself’ the sullen man whines
He rebelliously picks up the tube of ointment and tries to apply it on his wounds. Needless to say, he struggles with it and eventually drops it on the floor.
Walking up to him, Sanchi authoritatively takes the medicines from him and starts tending to his wounds.
The dejection that he had felt upon hearing the mother’s words slowly begin subsiding, as Indu watches the girl he loved tenderly care for him. While she bandages his arm, he gazes at her with love in his eyes, his spirits now uplifted.
Once she finishes with her job, Indu thanks her in amateurish English ‘Thank you very much madam ji’
‘You are welcome’ she smiles and then leaves.
Smiling to himself, he observes the bandages on his hands and then strokes the dressing on his cheek – probably reminding him of her touch!
Precap Sushil informs Tarachand and Shukla that Mehek had visited Sanchi’s house
