Skirting through the dark alleys, Indu retraces his steps to examine the source of the noise when he suddenly gets a phone call. Alerted by the call, Sanchi becomes anxious of being discovered and waits with bated breath. However, favouring Sanchi’s luck, the caller on the phone actually prods Indu to make haste. Hard pressed for time, a frustrated Indu decides to ditch the search attempt and rushes back towards the den instead.
Sanchi breathes a sigh of relief at having escaped narrowly and resumes following Indu. In her hurry to keep up with Indu’s tall strides, she unknowingly kicks a glass bottle on the ground. The clink again alerts Indu and he turns around warily, only to find none there. Sanchi had managed to quickly hide behind another wall, yet again. Indu’s suspicions are further allayed when he spots a pair of drunken men wandering around the bottle. Brushing off his doubts, Indu hastily completes the remainder of the journey to the hideout and knocks on a door. On being let in, Indu closes the door behind him.
Watching the door close, Sanchi tip toes up to the safe house and opens a wooden window slightly to peep in. What she sees only confirms her fears.
The place is nothing short of a dingy storeroom. A sick girl has been tied down to a bed and is being constantly threatened, while being force-fed by one of Indu’s gang members. In a nutshell, Swetha’s condition is deplorable. (Gone are our dreams of seeing a Guddu-Swetha romance) Sanchi decides to alert the police as soon as possible, so that Swetha’s condition does not deteriorate further and so that Indu could be caught red-handed.
There is a short scene where Roop is still dreaming for her Indu. Sobha is fed up of her useless daughter and shouts at her.
The mother and daughter have an altercation of sorts, before they return to resting for the night.
A desperate Sanchi runs to a dim police station and she approaches an asleep inspector . He is the same lax police inspector, who refused to file a FIR againt Indu in the past. She tries waking him up, simultaneously informing him about the urgency of the situation.
‘I’ll come to investigate the case in the morning’ he replies sleepily
‘It’ll become too late..please…sir…I know where she is now… just come with me…we can rescue her and nab Indu Singh…’
Disinterested in her rants, he tries shooing her away with some excuse or the other. However, the relentless Sanchi tries to emotionally blackmail him instead. She reminds him of how he hadn’t helped her family in the past. She goads him to take action now, as the serious developments involved the life of an innocent young girl.
Finally deciding to speak up, the inspector confirms ‘Oh this Indu Singh…he’s the same guy who was harassing you…who forced you into a sham wedding… all this seems like something you’ve come up with to settle personal enmity’ he again closes his eyes, trying to catch a few winks.
Watching his uncaring attitude, Sanchi becomes infuriated and accuses him of shying away from his line of duty ‘I will surely do something about it this time’
‘Why, will you write a letter to the prime minister, complaining about me?’ he smiles
‘I don’t have to go all the way to Delhi…I am fighting for the upcoming University elections…with my one request, the entire university will be outside your station, rebelling against you and your injustices…and then, I’ll alert the media too, seeing how they love to report on any ‘breaking news’…’
She begins making a call, which instantly brings the inspector to his senses. Eager to stay out of any trouble, he sheepishly makes up for his negligence and promises to accompany her then and there.
A jeep full of police officers are led by a confident Sanchi towards the den that she had stumbled upon earlier. Indu is relaxing on his charpoy playing a game of chess with his friends, when they’re taken aback by the seemingly unexpected raid. Storming the scene, the officer threatens Indu and then opens the door to the safe-house. Sanchi rushes in calling out Swetha’s name, but the hideout is now empty. The frantic girl makes a thorough search of the small premises, but comes up with nothing – she instantly realizes that Indu must have moved her some place else.
Stepping out of the room and walking up to Indu, she questions him authoritatively ‘Where have you hidden her? Where is she now?’
Acting as righteous as he could, the manipulative Indu stands and speaks up in support of his innocence ‘I was sitting here peacefully with my friends…this girl can’t stand that…look at how she’s come up with something new now…’
Not knowing what to say, the inspector looks on, embarrassed.
Taking advantage of their silence, Indu quickly turns the tables on them instead ‘By the way inspector, I fail to understand what you are doing so late at night with my wife.. whats the issue…what has happened?’
‘Don’t believe him..he is purposely acting innocent…I’ve seen everything with my own eyes!’ a distressed Sanchi counters
The rogue reads the inspector’s expressions and then glances back at Sanchi ‘She makes up wonderful stories..forget about politics Sanchi, why don’t you start a drama club?’
‘He is lying’
‘And you are uttering the whole truth, is it?’ turning to address the inspector, Indu explains in a very modest tone ‘You see inspector, she is contesting elections against me now. She is trying to spoil my image…she is using anything and everything she can to defeat me in the process…’
Desperate to get to the bottom of the truth, Sanchi suggests hurriedly ‘No inspector, make a thorough search of this place – I’m sure you’ll find Swetha here somewhere…’
This proposition appears to make the entire gang, including Indu fidgety. Following a short pause, Indu speaks up hesitantly ‘Fine… make a search…’ he glares at Sanchi ‘Anyway, nothing of mine stays hidden from her…’ he momentarily stares at her with a subtly sarcastic frown, the underlying meaning of which could’ve been understood by none other than Sanchi.
The police inspector pursues a second round of search, while Indu casually returns to his game of chess ‘And here…now your queen is dead’ he utters aloud, playing the game. Letting out a smile, he then proceeds to advice his audience nonchalantly ‘A queen should never openly confront a king in his court…you see, commanders, soldiers…anyone could take advantage of the situation’ his smiles turn to grins and then chuckles.
Helplessly standing a few feet away, Sanchi looks aghast, displeased by the deviousness in Indu’s manner.
Their second inspection having yielded nothing, the police officers quickly return to join Indu and Sanchi.
‘The queen has shown her lack of capabilities and has now been defeated’ Indu announces aloud, referring more so to Sanchi than his game of chess!
He tells the inspector ‘She is just wasting your time and mine’
The police officer is now furious, what with his slumber having been disturbed and all. He starts scolding Sanchi for wasting his time. Watching the torrent of taunts being hurled at Sanchi by the officer, Indu finds himself unable to control his smirks.
While the adamant Sanchi refuses to cave in and fights on, the officer finally bellows ‘Do you have any proof for your claims?’
‘Yes I do..indeed I do…’ Saying so, Sanchi fishes out the kadaa from her jhola, while Indu’s smiles turn to very uneasy frowns. Sanchi goes on to explain how she found it in Swetha’s room and then grabs a folded campaign poster from her bag to show the inspector that the kadaa was indeed Indu Singh’s.
Studying the new proofs briefly, the officer walks up to Indu ‘Why Indu, the kadaa seems to resemble the one in your photo…what do you have to say’
‘This is not the same one at all…not mine’ Indu disputes agitatedly ‘This cannot be mine…this cannot be…’
(Bloody hell) His anxiousness thereafter disappears and gives way to a sly smile. The brute then calmly removes his hand from his pocket and shows his wrist to the inspector – he has another similar silver kadaa in his hand now!
‘She is just trying to defame me using such small tactics…’ he alleges
Sanchi is overwhelmed by the unanticipated turn of events ‘Please don’t believe him…yesterday, when I observed him, he didn’t have it on his hand’
‘Oh! Then prove it… that this is not mine…’ Indu argues
‘I’ll do that too! Just give me time’ says Sanchi
‘Shut up!’ the inspector shouts aloud ‘Time? I’ve been hearing your nonsense for quite a while now. You’ve wasted a lot of MY time’
He starts walking away and she runs after him trying to make him understand that she had indeed seen Swetha with her own eyes. He threatens her again, telling her that he’d file an FIR against her for misleading the law if she didn’t stop.
‘Please understand officer… Swetha’s life is in danger’
‘No! I’m the one in danger here’ Indu melodramatically yells at the police officer ‘This girl has gone truly mad’
Watching the two of them, the officer admonishes Sanchi ‘If you are suspicious of anyone, come to the station tomorrow and file a FIR…we’ll take things from there… now leave me alone’ Saying so, the police force leaves.
Now left to face the music alone, Sanchi is confronted by Indu. He takes a few moments to adjust the new kadaa on his hand, showing off his chiselled forearms to her ‘You were planning to destroy me with this kadaa…I’m like Raavan…you try and sever one head of mine, another one will just pop back in its place!’
Watching Sanchi dumbstruck, the dauntless Indu proceeds to confess ‘You wanted to know the truth right… I AM THE ONE WHO KIDNAPPED SWETHA JHA!’ an exasperated Sanchi watches on in horror, while he continues calmly ‘If you can find her, find her…if you can prove the truth, do so…if you can stop all this, stop it…if you can defeat me, try to do so…I am not afraid of anyone or anything…’
He then smiles at her warmly ‘By the way, do you want to join us in a game of chess now?’
Sanchi enters her home heavy-heartedly. She recalls all the incidents of the night and feels extremely irate at the defeat and the insult.
‘Indu Singh must have suspected me and my plans…hence, he had an upper hand today..’ she eventually decides that she’ll not give up so easily ‘Indu, whatever you do…I’ll make sure that I find out where Swetha is being hidden and why!’
PRECAP
In the staff room –
Janardhan informs Indu that there is an enquiry going on against him and that the authorities have to take action against him
Indu slaps his hand on the desk and thunders angrily ‘Well these are only accusations right… fine…I accuse Sanchi too… of kidnapping Swetha…now please start up an enquiry committee against her too’
