LODGE
Sanchi fears she’s trapped now what with the police having her book and the weapon with her fingerprints on it too! While the girl wails loudly about their ill-luck, Indu appears quite shaken. He doesn’t know how to react to the situation or what their next plan of action should be.
Seeing his unsure stance, Sanchi gets irked. She rebukes him that they should have gone to the police in the first place.
‘Henceforth, even if I did tell them the truth, the police wouldn’t believe us…instead, they’ll just send all of us to prison’ she sobs
Frustrated by their predicament and Sanchi’s unco-operative response, Indu yells back at her in response ‘I’m trying to do all I can to save all of our lives… with the police having all evidences pointing against us, we’d be instantly trapped if we revealed the truth to them.’ he pauses vehemently ‘Why, if you have a solution for this problem help yourself…do what you have to’
Sanchi is unable to come up with an answer to the flustered man’s challenge.
MATHURS- Tiwari’s room
Squatting on his sofa, Sadanand is busy wondering about the possible reason behind Rubina’s death. Soon after, Radha arrives with his tea and questions the lawyer as to why he wasn’t busy making his way to office yet. The preoccupied man comes up with a lie, stating that he had a headache and had thus decided against attending work that day. Radha walks away – but her suspicions have been roused and she decides to keep an eye on her husband.
MATHURS’ – The hall
When Indu and Sanchi arrive home later on, they’re greeted by a not-too-pleased Veena waiting for them in the hall. She hastily leads the pair to her room and then shuts the door behind her.
Turning to face Sanchi, she interrogates her ‘May I know where you’ve come from?’
Watching Indu’s hints that reminded her not to give away the truth, Sanchi decides to blurt out a response. However, she is in for a rude shock when the unconvinced Veena metes her a hard slap instead. Indu stares at the mother-daughter duo aghast.
Clarifying her reactions, Veena informs Sanchi about the fact that her friends had arrived a short while earlier – and that they’d told her about Sanchi not attending campus for the past 3-4 days ‘Telling me you’ve been at college, you’ve stayed out so late at night…what have you been up to…’ the mother screams hysterically.
Watching the tearful Sanchi say nothing in her justification, Veena paces forth and starts shaking the girl in vexation.
Worried by how the matter was now escalating, Indu takes the lead by stepping in between the two and speaking up for Sanchi ‘She hadn’t attended the lectures because as a president there are many things she needs to do outside the campus too…we didn’t tell you all that so you don’t get worried’ hoping the mother’d spare Sanchi thereafter, he waits with bated breath. Sanchi nods her head too, affirming Indu’s words.
Watching their responses, Veena brings her tirade to a halt. Though not convinced by their replies, Veena reminds the pair of a grave fact – that ‘truth’ was the only eternal survivor! ‘If I ever come to know that you’ve been lying to me about all this…I’ll never forgive you for that!’the mother scolds her daughter, before walking away from the scene.
Once Veena storms away, Indu turns around to look at his shaken wife. He was immensely pained too – pained by what had just transpired. The mother’s pithy words had managed to rattle him. The reality that he’d blatantly lied to a lady who trusted him was gnawing at his conscience. He agrees with Sanchi’s words that uttering a lie to cover up for something else was never a long-term solution
‘This game cannot go on for long…’ Indu confesses ‘We need to end it soon’
NEXT MORNING
The postman arrives with a letter for Sadanand and notifies Sanchi about it. Sanchi calls out to Radha to let her know and is then about to return to her room. Just then, she realizes that the letter could be the fateful one they’d posted a day or two ago during the kidnapping fiasco – the ‘blackmail for ransom one’
Quickly strutting back to the postman, she receives the envelope from him and her fears were confirmed – it was the same letter! However, before she is able to act upon the discovery, Radha comes near her and snatches the envelope away ‘It’s my husband’s letter…what do you have to do with it?’
No sooner than Radha leaves the hall with the letter in her hand, Sanchi rushes to her room to inform Indu about the latest developments.
SANCHI’S ROOM
Needless to say, Indu is profoundly flustered when Sanchi lets him in on the unexpected tidings.
The distraught Sanchi starts pondering on the seriousness of the issue – If the ransom letter penned in Mehek’s handwriting reached Sadananad, that’d only be another nail in their coffin! As though, they didn’t have enough evidences against them already.
When Indu learns that the letter had only just arrived, the pair make haste from their room to try and investigate into the issue.
TIWARI’S ROOM
Grabbing the letter from his wife’s hands, Tiwari starts browsing through it. It takes the man less than a second to realize that it was the ransom note from Rubina’s kidnappers. Shrouding the letter from Radha, he continues reading it – unaware that Indu and Sanchi were eavesdropping on them.
Once having gone through its contents, he folds it and walks away from the room – but not before lying to his wife about the contents of the letter.
However, Radha is no fool either. She instantly catches upon the fact that her husband was keeping something from her.
Once Sadanand leaves the house, Indu and Sanchi return to their rooms. The pair feel plagued by their problems that seemed to engulf them from all directions. They had to find a way out of this mess and QUICK!
Just then, Indu gets a call from Manwa reminding him that they’d resolved to make a search of their Rubina’s house that day. Nodding his head, Indu swiftly agrees upon meeting up for the same.
POLICE STATION
Janardhan informs the inspector that Rubina Begum was a student of the Goswami university. The inspector suspects that the murderers must also be part of the university – seeing that the clues seemed to point in that direction!
Hearing what the officer had to say, Janardhan requests the officer to wrap up the investigation as soon as he could in order to preserve the reputation of their university.
The officer in turn gives the professor his word and his assurance.
Just as Janardhan is about to leave, the inspector instructs Janardhan to hand over the personal details of Rubina Begum to the station to help them hasten their enquiries.
MATHURS’
Sadanand is worried about the reason for the ransom note demanding for further money from him – Were the kidnappers greedier now or had the letter reached him late because of the postal strike?
Radha is more-than-aware of her husband’s worries, watching him closely from a distance.
RUBINA’S HOUSE
The foursome break into Rubina’s house in order to start making a thorough search of it. Meanwhile, Mehek is worried about the repercussions of her letter reaching Sadanand. However, Indu asks the girls not to squander time on such discussions and instead work at examining the house for any clues.
While surveying through the house, Manwa comes across some bank statements that revealed that Rubina’d been receiving regular monthly payments of 20,000. Glancing at the statements, Indu surmises that they’d have to go to the bank to confirm the owner of the account.
Mehek wonders if the person sending the money could be Sadanand, but Indu does not think so – his lawyer uncle was too miserly to deposit such amounts regularly AND too shrewd to use legal means like bank accounts and the sort to leave behind any proof of his immoral actions.
‘Then, who could be this person who’s helping Rubina out so much…’ Manwa and the rest of the gang wonder
Meanwhile Sanchi also comes across a long anonymous letter adressed to Rubina and concludes that the sender had to be Sadanand!
PRECAP
When Indu and Sanchi are returning home (discussing about the Rubina case) they come across a police jeep parked outside the Mathur nivas. Sadanand tells the inspector that it was Sanchi who’d brought Rubina to their house.
