Veena and Indu are pleased that Tarachand joined them for lunch. Tarachand glares angrily at Indu for a few seconds and then reverts to his breakfast. Discerning the father’s anger, Indu lets out a faint smile and then reverts to his plate.
Soon after, when Sanchi is about to serve Indu some food – he stops her in her tracks by blocking her hand. Indicating towards the father awaiting at the other end of the table, Indu signals his wife to serve Tarachand first. Impressed, Sanchi goes about as instructed.
A short while later – both Indu and Tarachand notice that Sanchi was not interested in her food. Both men call out to their dear one at the same time ‘Sanchi’
An awkward silence ensues for a moment and then Indu allows Tarachand to take the lead.
The father enquires why she was not eating anything and Sanchi replies that she’d been suffering from a headache that morning. Advicing the girl to take a medicine for the pain, Tarachand leaves the breakfast table with a warm smile. Indu looks on thoughtfully
Some time later, Sobha and Roop arrive at the dining hall with a box of samosas in their hand. After Roop puts on a show of apologizing for her behaviour at court the previous day, she goes on to tease Sanchi about her first night. Indu who feels uncomfortable about the whole scenario gets up and walks away.
However, the unsuspecting Sanchi decides to tell her mother about her experience after drinking the glass of milk the previous night. After learning from her mother that nothing had been added to the milk apart from a few condiments, Sanchi reveals that she’d felt drowsy after gulping the milk.
Roop instantly takes the cue that her plan had been successful and starts taunting Sanchi about how her entire ‘Suhaag Raat’ had turned out to be a damp squib. Though Veena and Sanchi feel awkward about their remarks, they don’t react to it. However, precisely at this moment Veena notices a subtle exchange of overjoyed smiles between Sobha and Roop and guesses that the mother-daughter duo must have been upto no good.
When the elated Roop is about to offer Sanchi a piece of samosa from her box, Veena immediately stops her and begins ushering the two ladies away from the place. Offended by the sudden unexpected hostility from Veena, Sobha and Roop rebuke the mother in many sentences before leaving for their house.
UNIVERSITY
At university, Indu and Sanchi are greeted in campus with a very warm welcome organized by his friends – wishes, boquets, garlands, cards and the lot! The glowing pair of Indu and Sanchi are moved by the gesture and thank their friends for the arrangements. The couple then seek the blessings of their tutors and proceed to cut the cake ordered for them. It’s then that Sanchi realizes that Abhimanyu and Mehek were missing from the scene.
UNIVERSITY TERRACE
Mehek is unimpressed by Abhimanyu’s inability to speak out what was going on in his mind. Apparently, he hadn’t mustered the courage to propose to her last night when they’d met for ice cream either. While Mehek is busy sulking away, Abhimanyu tries his best to speak up on this instance. However, their efforts are once again interrupted when Indu’s gang approach the awkward pair – asking them to join Indu and Sanchi for the cake-cutting ceremony.
Manwa is totally disheartened by the failure of yet another opportunity!
UNIVERSITY GROUNDS
With a diplomatic smile, Indu cuts the cake and then feeds Sanchi and Manwa. Sanchi feeds Mehek the cake and then the professors are offered some pieces too. Thereafter, Yogi announces a free lunch to all the students on behalf of Indu and his gang. While the rest of the students begin dispersing for lunch, Indu catches Sanchi by her wrist and starts leading her along ‘Right..enough of fun and frolic with everyone else… now you come along with me’
Sanchi is hesitant and tries resisting ‘What are you doing…where are you taking me…’
In the meanwhile, Guddu notices that Indu was slipping away with his wife and questions him about it – but Indu shooes them away in no time!
A second later, the young man covers his wife’s eyes with his palms and nudges her along through the campus grounds
‘Why have you covered my hands…’ she protests ‘What if I fall down.. ‘
‘I’m here…you trust me right… hold my hand…’ he takes her hand in his ‘I’ll guide you now’
Saying so, he leads the girl towards his den.
INDU’S DEN
His palm still firmly planted on her eyes, he shuts the doors behind him. While Sanchi continues questioning him about her whereabouts, Indu requests her to be patient for a few seconds.
Once he was ready with her surprise, he asks her to open her eyes slowly – and my was that a surprise!
He’d transformed his entire den into a floral haven for her.
Flowers, garlands, boquets and petals adorned every nook and cranny in his den. Breath-taken by the transformation, Sanchi goes about observing the room – toying and playing with one of the hanging bouquets!
Walking up to her from behind, he hugs her – taking her hands in his and caressing her fingers while doing so. Muttering into the blissful girl’s ears, he updates her about the efforts he went through ‘You know…I approached all the flower vendors in Benaras today and told them that they had to manage without any flowers today… as I needed the most beautiful and the freshest of flowers for my dear wife…’ he pauses ‘In order to fill her life with beauty and fragrance…so this is a small gift to you from my side’
She turns around to face him with a grateful smile ‘All this is beautiful…thank you so much Indu’
Nodding his head to acknowledge her gratitude, he shifts into a more playful mode ‘All right…now its time to eat and drink’ realizing that his statement conveyed the wrong intention, he corrects himself ‘I…I.. don’t mean drink…I…I mean time to eat’
Directing her towards a centre table exquisitely arranged with food, he ushers her to take a seat.
Sanchi cannot believe the extent he’d gone to for her sake ‘You did all this for me… to make me happy?’
He nods chirpily ‘As long as I’m alive, how could my wife remain hungry…so from the best hotel in Benaras, I’ve ordered all this for you…’ he begins serving a few dishes onto a plate ‘I’d instructed them that the dishes should have nothing lacking in it…you see this is all for my wife…’
Gifting her a few long-stemmed roses, he then takes his seat opposite to hers.
Receiving the flowers from him, she confesses her feelings ‘I’m so lucky to have found a husband who loves me so much’
He feeds her a spoon from his plate ‘I’m no less lucky to have found you either!’
Just then the door to their secluded den opens and in comes Indu’s vaanar sena – carrying a cauldron full of ‘Rabdi’ with a large iron ladle in their hand.
Indu realizes he was in for trouble, as Sanchi stands up to question the guys about what they’d brought. Naively, the boys begin narrating their tale – how they’d been instructed by Indu to bring along some Rabdi for Sanchi – how the shopkeeper had refused to do so since they had outstanding debts – and how they’d had to mete the innocent shopkeeper a tight slap and forcibly bring the cauldron of Rabdi.
‘After all it was a matter of bhabhiji’s honour and respect, you see’ Guddu concludes happily
Sanchi is shocked – both by their story and by how they seemed so unperturbed about their wrongdoings in the entire issue!
She turns to Indu, who has no other go but to look away in agony. Obviously, he understood his wife better than the rest of his lot!
Turning to Guddu, she grits her teeth ‘You guys slapped the shopkeeper?’ she then turns to Indu once again ‘So, you got all of this without paying anyone for it?’
The young man is unable to justify himself – after all he was in the wrong.
She questions him ‘You know I don’t like all this…and yet…’
Indu desperately tries changing the topic ‘You foolish boys…why did you raise your hand on the shopkeeper…resorting to violence and hooliganism…’
‘Stop shouting at them…they’ve only done what you asked them to…its your fault, not their’s!’
Picking up her bag, she storms away from the place in rage.
Watching her pace away, Indu turns to his sidekicks and gives them a few smacks on their heads ‘Why did you do this…just when things were turning romantic…you’ve ruined everything…’
He takes a bundle of notes out of his pocket and thumps it in Guddu’s hand ‘Firstly return this rabdi to the shopkeeper, settle all outstanding debts with him and then ask for an apology’
When the boys linger around for a few seconds, not knowing how to react, the annoyed Indu folds his hand into a namaste and orders them to leave at that instant.
‘Damn…back to problems again…’ he fumes to himself ‘Just as I was about to start my happy wedded life …my bride’s angry with me yet again…’
MOHALLA
Sanchi gets off Indu’s bike. Its obvious she hasn’t been talking to him. He quickly switches off the engine, removes his helmet and runs behind her.
‘Sanchi you’re the love of my life…why are you so angry about such a small thing…’
Seeing that he didn’t seem to get the point, she shirks her hand away from him and steps into her house irately.
Not responding to his pleading calls, Sanchi hastens towards her room.
While Indu is standing in the hall wondering how to pacify her, he overhears Tarachand having an argument with the pension officer.
He walks over to Tarachand to find out what was troubling the old man to such an extent.
Though Tarachand tries evading Indu’s concern at first, he eventually gives in to the kind enquiries. Spewing out his frustrations about dealing with the pension office, he lets Indu know that the officers were tormenting him needlessly.
Obviously, this was no big deal for Indu – he lets his father-in-law know that he needn’t worry about the pension issue any more. Taking the envelope from Tarachand’s hand, he assures the uncertain man that he’d have his work done for him with little hassle and in no time!
Having said so, he walks away from the living room quite confidently.
LIVING ROOM
Later that night…
Sporting a t-shirt and joggers (for the first time in RJN) an anxious Indu is unwittingly talking to himself when Veena catches him doing so. Indu confides in her that his wife was annoyed with him about something he’d done and that he’d come up with a plan to make it up to her. An entertained Veena mocks the pair that it was barely a day since their wedding and that they were already fighting!
The bashful Indu remains quiet in response to her comments.
Veena then goes on to explain ‘Sanchi’s temper is like her father’s…ready to explode at any given instant… however, I’m certain that you’ll manage to placate her…’
When Indu thereafter notices two bowls of kheer in her hand, Veena explains that she’d prepared it as it was Sanchi’s favourite.
This leaves Indu at an advantage – seeing how he had a good idea AND Sanchi’s favourite dish to butter her up!
Chuckling at his new-found enthusiasm, Veena hands him over the tray and watches him scoot off to his bedroom optimistically.
SANCHI’S ROOM
Sanchi is tidying her sheets when she notices a gift-box – a ring box on the bed. She picks it up and opens it to note a very cute ring with an ‘I’m sorry’ note in it.
She smiles to herself when she hears his voice from behind ‘Its not too expensive…but yes, it’s filled with my love for you…I didn’t get this from anyone out of force…I sold an old chain of mine to get you this…’
Sanchi is touched
PRECAP : -Veena catches Sobha and Roop trying to add some sleeping admixture to Sanchi’s milk yet again! (LOL so what did they plan to do this for – the next 4 years? 20 years? Silly people.. )
