TEMPLE
Indu half-heartedly rings the temple bell and once again turns around to see if Sanchi had arrived. Noticing no signs of her arrival near the entrance, he returns to begin his prayers. Just then, he hears her voice call out to him from a distance. Realizing she’d finally come, he turns around quickly with a smile on his face – and there she was, her face glowing like the sun itself!
Beaming widely, she walks up to him. An expression of relief overcomes the young man, as she happily stands next to him. The couple-in-love spend a few moments gazing at each other till Veena interrupts them.
‘He hasn’t come, right?’ she asks Sanchi anxiously
Smiling at her mother, the content girl indicates in the direction of her approaching father. Tarachand’s expression was quite grim, but he was there nevertheless! Indu and Veena are quite elated by the positive consequences.
After casting a smile in Sanchi’s direction, Indu starts putting on a playful act ‘Why am I smiling, I’m quite angry with you…’
‘Why?’ Sanchi enquires in a subdued tone
‘You took so long to accept my love…’ he whines ‘and now that you’ve accepted me…again you’re making me wait for you…you’ve crossed all limits today!’
Watching his frolicky complaints, Sanchi hits him on his hand. Instantly turning to his mother-in-law Indu bemoans about it ‘Look at this sasuma…she’s hitting me now… if this is how things are now’ he grins mischievously ‘I wonder how they’ll be when time passes by’
Enjoying their exchanges, Veena lets out a joyous smile and then pulls the young man’s ears ‘Indu babu…get used to this…if you ever hurt my daughter in future, I’ll give you a few slaps myself’ as the couple continue grinning at each other, Veena continues ‘However, I know you’re good at heart and you’ll keep her happy always’
While most of the audience are a happy witness to the light-hearted banter, three members are not – Radha, Tiwari and Tarachand!
The couple then step forth in front of the deity and offer their prayers with closed eyes – but not without darting each other a few gazes first (Loved the beautiful background music playing here)
Just as they finish doing so, Sanchi notices the Sindoor-daana in the Aarthi thaali and recollects memories from her sordid wedding day. Her radiant face becomes shrouded by a temporary gloom till she makes up her mind. While Indu is still in prayer-mode, Sanchi picks up the sindoor-daana and then her mangalsutra and folds it within her palms. Just as Indu opens his eyes, she stretches out her folded palms in front of him. Smiling at her antics, he waits for her to open her fists and when she does so, he is immensely touched.
She explains how the first time she’d worn the Mangalsutra, she’d been FORCED to wear it by him. However, now that he’d changed – her feelings for him too had changed. After confessing her love to him, she gives him her word ‘I promise you I wouldn’t insult your love henceforth…I want you to apply this sindoor on me again… and give me a promise that you’ll be mine forever! Tell me Indu Singh…you’d promise, right?’
With just a mild smile on his lips, the composed young man proceeds to fulfil her wish – applying the sindoor on her forehead and then tying the mangalsutra on her neck. As the holy chants in the background come to a halt, Indu takes her hand in his and takes a vow ‘I promise you…that I’ll be with you forever…never let sorrow affect you in any way…’
Sanchi responds ecstatically ‘I’ll follow all my duties as your wife…from today…your sorrows are mine and my happiness your’s’
Pleased to hear her words, Indu pulls her close to him and hugs her for a few moments.
Once the couple had completed their mini-vows and mini-rituals, Veena walks up to them. She lets them know that she wanted them to finish taking the 7 pheras in front of Lord’s idol too – i.e. to complete their marriage rituals in actual sense!
MATHURS’
Sushil and Anita return home. Sushil is not too happy that the rest of the members were at the temple while they were sent home to take care of other arrangements. However, Anita tries making him understand that the Mathurs’ considered them as a family too and that making these ‘welcome’ arrangements were as important as being in the temple itself!
The couple then realize that they had no money to purchase the required articles, so Anita fetches money from her own piggy bank and gives it to him.
After all, they were dependant on the Tiwaris, who were in turn dependant on Indu now – so she considered it part of her duty. Sushil accepts the truth and leaves to do as told – but not before promising his wife that he’d try to be more independent henceforth!
TEMPLE
Customarily, Sanchi’s dupatta is tied to Indu’s shawl. The delighted pair garland each other and then start taking their pheras. While everyone happily watches the spectacle, Tarachand is nowhere near pleased. He recalls the day Indu had held him at knife-point and wedded his daughter forcibly ‘After all that you’ve done to me and my daughter, I can never accept you as my son-in-law…ever!’ he silently vows
Once the pheras are complete, the gang of friends rejoice by clapping loudly. Indu and Sanchi then move forth to seek blessings from her parents. Once they fall at Tarachand’s feet – he gives his blessings to Sanchi alone and this is noticed by both Indu and Sanchi. However, the couple don’t make a big deal of it and move over to Veena who is much more welcoming of the two. After the newly wedded couple gain blessings from the Tiwaris, the friends then express their wish to have group photos taken and what follows is – A HAPPY PHOTO SESSION!
THE MOHALLA
LOL! The baraat arrives home finally (which is obviously Sanchi’s house). What a uniQue couple! Anyway, here the garlanded dulha is driving his own jeep with his bride beside him. Everyone else is busy dancing on the streets. Many members from the mohalla start joining in the revelry – barring Roop and Tarachand of course!
Tarachand’s gloomy face is noticed by Indu and Sanchi. The concerned pair stare at each other for a few seconds. However, Sanchi is soon pulled away by Abhimanyu to join in the celebrations and she gives in to the merry atmosphere to start dancing. Indu too accompanies her soon after – his dance a bit more wild than her subdued one of course! I guess the couple couldn’t just get over how happy they were.
Eventually, they make their way to the entrance. Veena places the kalash of rice at the doorway. She then tells Indu that since his mother was not present for the festivities, she was his mother-in-law AND his mother for the time-being!
‘Now, this is your house…so please let’s carry out the grahapravesh…’
While Veena is about to do the aarthi, Radha also joins in – surprisingly her involvement seemed quite genuine this time!
So, the Aarti, the tilak and the welcoming ceremonies are carried out successfully.
When the time for the Kalash-toppling comes, Sanchi looks up at Indu and he gives his wife the ‘go-ahead’ with his typical stylish nod! After toppling it, Sanchi then dabs her feet in the alta and makes a trail through the house (signifying the arrival of Lakshmi). Indu faithfully follows her too – at this point, they look quite like an overwhelmed bride and groom carrying out all the customs and traditions albeit in simple attires!
Watching the wedding party disappear into the Mathur mansion, Sobha and Roop spare a few curses for them. In fact, Roop even vows revenge!*sigh*
THE GAMES
The pair hunt for the ring within a large cauldron of milk amidst loads of supportive yells and whoops and not surprisingly, sanchi finally triumphs.
Indu slaps his hand in mock-frustration and then requests for another round – promising that he’ll consider Sanchi winner if she won this time around too! Apparently, he’d already lost twice! Hence, Mehek warns him about the repercussions and lets him have another round. However, he loses yet again.
‘There you go, now you’ll have to submit…Sanchi’ll be the dominant one in your household henceforth’ Mehek teases Indu
‘What Saali sahiba’ Indu corrects Mehek ‘I’ve given Sanchi my life…and you’re talking of mere submission!’
Hearing his words, Sanchi is touched.
Radha then brings forth a large plate of rice and asks Sanchi to pick up how much ever she could – the ritual signifying that the amount picked was her own ‘household’
As Sanchi tries taking as much as she could within her palms, some grains manage to slip through. Seeing this, Indu rushes forward and keeps his palms under hers to catch the falling grains ‘As long as I’m there, I’ll ensure our household stays intact!’
Needless to say, Sanchi is earnestly impressed
PRECAP
