Meet Cabir Maira, the talented Sound Engineer cum actor who essays the role of Jidah in Life OK’s…
Cabir Maira who essays the role of Jidah in Life OK and Sphere Origin’s recently launched show 26-12 has a very interesting background. He’s a good actor with great looks no doubt, but he is also a Sound Engineer with the degree from Australia, equipped with both on-stage and behind the screen experience. The young lad has also worked at the Fox Studios and has worked on the background score for few Hollywood movies.. Wow, this sounds interesting, isn’t it for an introduction?
Well, we talked to Cabir Maira on his background and experience shooting for the unique show on Life OK, 26-12..
Says Cabir, “I have done a lot of theatre in my school days and was involved in direction too. I basically love to manage the stage sound and lighting. I studied Sound Engineering in Australia, and after working there for some time, I decided to come back to India. I then trained under Kishore and Amit Kapoor, and have also worked as the Assistant Director to Vikram Bhatt for the film Shapith.”
So how did acting happen? “My family and friends wanted me to get into acting. After getting back from Australia, my focus moved towards acting and I groomed myself in voice and diction skills, as well as dancing. I was looking for work, both on television and films, and this is when I shot for a movie of Anurag Kashyap titled Sunburn. Even there, I acted and worked as the on-location sound recordist. Apart from that, I have done an adventure travel show for NDTV Good Times. I have also shot for a short film with some friends of mine. This was the time when I was introduced to Director Sidharth Sengupta through one of my friends. And when he narrated the brief of my role in 26-12, I wanted to take it up. After I went through a series of auditions, I got a call from Sphere Origin for the role of Jidah.”
How is the experience shooting for 26-12? “Well, I love it. They are a fantastic bunch of people to work with. Everyone on the set is sweet, friendly, helpful and welcoming. Sidharth Sir (Director of 26-12) has been extremely patient with me and has helped me understand my character. The shoot hours are long and this makes it tiring, but I am having fun time shooting at the real locations. Talking about the show, it comes with a message and this makes the viewing all the more better. The show pays tribute to the police force that jumped into action during the Mumbai blast. As the story unfolds, there will be a message spread to the citizens too.”
Tell us more about Jidah, the angry young man in 26-12? “Aah, he is a crazy guy, extremely selfish with a huge ego and a twisted sense of humour. Jidah has a few shades of grey that will unfold as the story picks up pace. On the whole, he is an extremely negative character, who has a calculated and controlled anger which he vents out in all his conniving plans.”
Lastly, Cabir states, “26-12 is a very unique show with a different approach, and I want to request one and all to enjoy this thriller.”
All the best, Cabir for the role of Jidah..
