“It’s a grey shade character and a well defined multifaced charatcer”- Simone Singh
Making a come back on the small screen after a sabbatical, actress Simone Singh looks poised as Sakshi Goenka in Ek Hasina Thi. She talks about her character in depth with us.
Her precision in acting is impeccable. With decades of experience in the industry, her acting prowess has always grown with time. After taking a sabbatical from the small screen, actress Simone Singh is back in a new serial Ek Hasina Thi on Star Plus.
A thriller drama series, Ek Hasina Thi is a daily soap set in Kolkata which shows how Durga takes revenge for justice. The show also stars Sanjeeda Sheikh and Vatsal Seth in lead roles. Briefing about her role in the serial, Simone says, “I play the role of Sakshi Goenka who belongs to Goenka clan, quite a powerful industrial family. She is quite strong and does everything with great aplomb.”
With some of the famous serials like A mouthful of Sky, Heena, Thoda Hai Thode Ki Zaroorat Hai, to her credit, Simone has always played the role of a positive character. Surprisingly, here she plays a contrary role. Will audience be able to accept this side of hers? “I think so… the show is quite edgy and fast-paced. But if you ask me, I’m enjoying every bit of it. It’s a definite grey shade. Not on one dimensional. It’s a well-defined multifaceted character,” explains she. Any fears of being type-cased? “No. I have always done diverse roles and this one is different too.”
But what makes Ek Hasina Thi unique and different from others? “The scale with which it has been presented is very grand. The design and story are also interesting.”
Now that she is back on TV, we quiz on the reason behind the sabbatical and she replies, “I took a break when everything went on to become daily… the whole thing became hectic. Sometimes it got difficult to maintain a balance in life. However, now schedules are much more organized. Everything goes smoothly.”
Okay, so what do you do when you are not acting? “Well, I and my husband like to travel a lot. Now that I know that it’s not going to happen, but still I love to travel and read books too,” she says with all smiles.
Simone has always been cautious in choosing her roles. Doing anything randomly is not her style. So, how do you choose a script or a role? “Honestly, things happen originally. A role, even if it’s short term, I take it if it’s good. I don’t take things at a time. If I have to do a film project, I would probably take a break from the small screen, complete the film and then take some other project.”
Currently, actors, especially TV, believe that films are better than serials as they take less time and it’s easy to do other things. Do you also opine the same? “To some extent. When it’s a daily soap and it goes on for years and years, a fatigue creeps in. I wanted to pick a finite project and here I am with it,” she explains.
Concentrating on this show at the moment, Simone also plans to do films but after this show. Though the screening of the projects is on, we wish her the best on her return to the small screen.
