In conversation with Madhubala’s Arti Puri
Arti Puri, who plays the character of Trishna in Colors’ Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon does not seem too excited on the way her character is framing up.
We figured this out when we asked her about her character graph and she cryptically replied, “I am happy with the way my show is going on, that is more important.” When we asked her specifically if she was unhappy, she again gave an evasive answer, “No nothing as such. I am not a conventional actor, who looks at life as to whether I like my character or not. I just do my job; I am also a person who explores myself in a hundred different ways. I take everything what comes in my life in a positive way and try to learn from it.”
Arti who has earlier done Punjabi and South films says, “she regards her step sister character as one of the important pillars of Madhubala.”
“I am not sure if you can technically slot it as a positive or negative. But I feel that the public appreciates my work. For wherever I go people come forward and say that they love me.”
Looking ahead, Arti says, “Bollywood is on her radar.”
“It is a well known fact now that I came to TV as quirk of fate. I was doing work down South and broke my leg and was out of action. An when I become fit again this role came my away and I grabbed it for I was confident of producer Saurabh Tewari’s (Nautanki Telefilms) vision. I never plan anything. I might be open to doing lead roles in TV as well, but then you never know I might turn down the offer, if I don’t find it worthwhile. I never take up work just for the sake of billing.”
In closing, we ask her about her equation with lead girl Drashti Dhami (Madhubala) and she says, “We are very good friends and share many secrets.” She does not think that in today’s day and age rivalry among females is common place.
“If you are confident in your talent, you don’t let such things affect you,” she ends.
