I was a very naughty kid in school- Al Amin
It is everybody’s dream to be a globe trotter. Just a handful of us can afford to visit foreign countries. A microscopic minority are affluent enough to tour the world. Al Amin who plays Chintu in SAB TV’s Chintu Ban Gaya Gentleman (produced by Deepti Bhatnagar) is paid handsomely to tour the whole world.
Chintu who was confined to Malegaon in the Nashik District of Maharashtra in Malegaon Ka Chintu is now a happy go lucky international traveller. That is indeed why he has been bestowed the title of a ‘gentleman’ in the second season. A common thread to both the seasons is that comedy is created without any dialogues whatsoever.
A sincere actor like Al Amin just has work on his mind while travelling to far flung corners of the globe during the course of his show. When we told him that extensive travelling must be fun, he replied, “It is a professional commitment for me. I do not feel like a tourist at all. I hadn’t gone abroad before doing this show. It is nice to meet new people and see varied landscapes though.”
Which place did he enjoy visiting the most? “I loved visiting Barga which is a medieval town and commune of the province of Lucca in Tuscany, central Italy. Its idyllic landscape matched exactly with the villages that I love to paint.”
Though most actors aver that executing a silent comedy is a huge challenge, Al Amin says that he finds the same very simple. Going back to his childhood days he says, “I was a very naughty kid in school. Often the teacher would order the whole class to be silent. During that time, I would communicate with the other boys through gestures and facial expressions. So, doing a silent comedy isn’t tough for me. Moreover, as this is the second season, I am quite used to the format.”
Once again, when most actors point out that they have to work extra hard to maintain high energy levels that executing a comedy demands; Al Amin says that he has no difficulty in doing so. “I am an energetic person by nature. Also I make sure not to relax while working as if I do so I will keep other people waiting and delay the shooting.”
When we asked the actor which season was more enjoyable, he replied, “The second season is more glamorous and colourful. The former season had more characters. Both seasons were nice to execute.”
Al Amin praised his co-actress who plays his girlfriend Pinky. “She is a cooperative and experienced actress who has been a part of Chidiya Ghar and Lapataganj before.”
When we quizzed him about the show’s TRP not being too impressive, he replied, “As our serial is telecast on Saturday it attracts less eyeballs as many people aren’t at home during weekends. The TRP did decline during the IPL too. Nevertheless it surely isn’t a dismal TRP.”
Some are of the view that Gutur Gu is far difficult to execute as unlike Chintu Ban Gaya Gentleman it isn’t a one man’s show. The actor contradicted that saying, “The fact that the main responsibility of Chintu.. rests on me doesn’t make things simpler at all. Also, maximum of our shots are outdoors; that poses a greater challenge than indoor shots. Gutur Gu is a nice show with talented actors too. In fact I had been a part of it for nine months. I exactly know what it is like to perform in both the serials.”
