I pray to my parents, grandparents and to God – Gaurav S Bajaj

Gaurav S Bajaj who you had last seen in Colors’ Uttaran, is essaying the role of Rajveer in Life OK’s Kaisa Ye Ishq….Ajab Sa Risk Hai (Producer Manish Goswami). His character is that of a highly educated young man from a Haryani village. The elders of his family wish to see him married to an uneducated girl who should be an expert in household chores. However, as he has attained an MBA degree, he wishes to marry a lady who is modern and educated. Little wonder that he falls in love with Simran (Sukirti Kandpal)- a NRI girl based in Singapore. Simran doesn’t even want to marry an Indian, let alone a groom who resides in a village hamlet with his puritanical family.

In this romantic comedy, Rajveer acts as the mediator between his Westernised wife and his traditional family who views Simran as an oddity. He is walking on a tight rope while trying to settle family disputes as he is in trouble no matter whichever side he speaks in favour of or against.

Gaurav says on his role, “Figuratively there are wells both in front of him and behind him. There is a tiger next to him. He may have to lie at times to solve problems in the hope that this will etch a better future for the family. Rajveer will come up with various solutions to better family ties but also goof up in the process. Normally, people may think that in a scenario like this, a break up is inevitable. In our show we will work on resolving the differences instead.”

On TV why do they always show a modern bride who has to be taught the ways of her traditional matrimonial household? Why should not a modern groom be taught traditional ways too? Gaurav replies, “Girls are more stylish and get induced by others fast.”

When the questions digress to his personal life and family, the handsome actor remarks, “My first love is my mother. My mom is very caring and calls me every day to enquire how I am though I have a servant. I am deeply attached to her. In fact she reminds me of Tulsi from Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. My favourite food is mutton cooked by my mother. She loved my character look of Rajveer when she saw the picture which is why I took this role.”

Speaking about his father, he says, “I am close to my dad too. In fact he reminds me of Mr Bajaj (Ronit Roy) from Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. He is a businessman. My dad is the most formal and gentle person I have ever come across. He has inspired me all my life.”

Gaurav is a devoted son who greatly reveres both his parents Anju and Sunil Bajaj. “I pray to my parents, grandparents and to God. You need to start a day with positive vibes. I do so by paying my respect to my parents. I get to meet many people daily- both positive and negative. Even if a negative person is there, he is positive for me as I have taken my parent’s blessings. I have done graduation, B.Com and Corporate Law. Nevertheless, my parents wanted me to be an actor more than I did.”

This Indore born Scorpion actor plays golf and squash and listens to music when he is not acting. “I read too, though you can’t quite call it my hobby. You may say that one hobby of mine is spending time alone. I also like going on trips- my favourite holiday destination is Spain. My brother is studying in London. I was there for a few months. I have travelled to all the good countries. I have kept a few destinations for travel with my partner. For instance I want to go to New York with my better half.”

When asked about his dressing style he says, “I prefer formals. I always carry a blazer or a jacket. If I am wearing a jeans or a t-shirt, you will still see me with a jacket. Like that, I feel like a complete man.”

When a journalist probed on his love life, he said, “I have had one love and one crush. I have never hurt a girl in love though. I am single and ready to mingle. My dad has given me six months of time to get a girl.”

When asked what kind of a girl he wishes to spend his life with, he explains, “You can’t ask me what kind of a girl I am looking for. She isn’t a clay material whom you can design figure wise and hair wise. I want to get along with a person who is the opposite of me. I will the least bit flattered by a comment like, ‘Oh, you are a Scorpion, so am I.’ What fun is in that? We should have some differences so that we can have a new adventure each day by discovering one another. ‘Oh you like white sauce pasta? So do I.’ That will not do. She likes Chinese whereas I like Italian is something that will interest me. We will have fights, she will not take my call for two days, then we will make up- that is exciting.”

Regarding an actor whose work he admires, he says, “Ranbir Kapoor is so immersed in the character plays he can’t get out of it. When I call my mom after work Hindi comes instead of Haryani. I just slip out of the role.” His dream is to star with Amitabh Bachchan in future.

We wish this actor all the best in his professional and personal life.
