Pratibha Paul who was last seen in Star Plus’ Saraswatichandra in a cameo will soon debut as a lead in Channel V’s popular shows Dil Dostii Dance.
In a candid chat with us Pratibha talks about her entry in the popular show Dil Dostii Dance, her passion for dance and more…
What is your character all about and how will your entry be in the show?
I am playing Ishika. She is born and brought up in Kolkata in the show and follows simple values. She has come to Mumbai to pursue her higher studies but she needs time to adjust in Mumbai as her Mom and Dad are not with her. They passed away when she was small and at that time only her close friend supports her since the death of her parents.
She has only this friend with whom she shares everything and is very open to him and feels happy to be with him. In short she knows only one person which is her friend.
On entering St. Louis College she gets shocked seeing the girls wearing shorts and mini dresses. As she is from a small town she wears Kurti and on asking about the admission forms in the college no one responds her by looking at her attire. She gets nervous seeing the crowd who are shown to be kissing and hugging each other in the college. She wonders about the crowd being so forward and how these things can be so easy for them to do publicly.
This show’s concept revolves around dance so how is your character connected to dance?
Like my character Ishika, I know dance but don’t know much styles like Hip Hop. As I have not learnt dance in my entire life, I was asked to perform in front of the excellent dancers. While performing I was nervous initially but then when I started dancing it turned out to be great and everyone got happy as people appreciated my dance. My seniors have thought of giving me a training to make me a good dancer. In this way she will get connected to her seniors in the show.
How did the show happen to you?
I am a Kathak dancer and am learning it since I was two and a half years old. My mom fought in my family for getting me trained as a dancer as she wanted me to grow as a dancer. I have attended various workshops, one fine day suddenly I got a call from my work shop and my teacher Parameeta asked me to go to Mumbai for attending a work shop. So I went to Mumbai and obviously I couldn’t say no as I am from Jamshedpur, Jharakhand. I was excited and left for Mumbai and reaching at the airport I received a call to come for an audition. I went with my luggage, asked the people around to handle it while I was giving the auditions. After my audition was over I got confirmed for the show. It is a dream come true. I have done many episodic like an episodic of CID and then an episodic in Savdhaan India – India Fights Back. My character in Savdhaan was very intense and bold. Then I did a cameo in Saraswatichandra on Star Plus.
You have already shot for the show how was your experience?
My first shot was that of a Mumbai darshan in which I had fun shooting for the same. Then on the set I had shot for a scene where I was alone talking on the phone when books slip from my hand. The directors and people were pulling my leg saying that I have to touch the feet of all which seemed so fake for me later on it turned out to be a prank but still I touched my director’s feet. Actually I have a habit to owe to a camera whenever I start shooting which I do daily. I adore Rey (Kunwar Amarjeet Singh) and Sharon (Vrushika Mehta) in Dil Dostii Dance and looking forward to work with more with them.
What are your expectations from the show?
My expectations are mainly to build my name and get fame through the show. I have not done much acting before as I used to focus only on dancing but this time when I gave the audition and got selected as a lead, it surprised me and it built a craze for acting within me. I am very happy with this show as I will get an opportunity to explore my acting as well as dancing ability through the show. I hope to grow as an actor as well as a dancer with the help of the show.
We wish good luck to Pratibha Paul for her first lead of the show.
