Inshi’s room
Indira: (pleading) please understand me, I have already consultant the doctor. The tumor at this stage will not be cured and from where can you get some much money for this expensive treatment. (Indar is shattered and is leaning on the wall crying quietly)
Rishi: (gravely) I have already arranged for that.
Indira: (stubbornly) I don’t want to undergo treatment now. (turns to the wardrobe and opens it to take out a navy blue shirt ) well, what was the movie where Rajesh Khanna was sick and he didn’t want to die in hospital. I too am doing the same. (Happily) I want live in the atmosphere of Sharma Nivas while playing around and die peacefully among the family members. (Rishi is speechless and tears roll down Indar’s eyes) cant you do this thing for me? (gives him the shirt)here is your shirt
Rishi: (notice the colour) is it the red shirt?
Indira: (Dazed and grabs from his hand to examine the colour closely) yes, it is red. (she feels dizzy) perhaps water fell into my eyes.
Rishi: (grabs the shirt from her hand) it is not water Shrimatiji, Your tumor is growing gradually. Perhaps you are suffering from colour blindness because of tumor. (wears the shirt)That is why I am requesting you to undergo treatment for tumor. Now come lets go.
Indira: (stubbornly) no I will not go.
Despite her constant protests Rishi drags her out of the room. They pass by Indar.
Indar: (still leaning motionless onto the wall ) My babli has brain tumor and has only a few days to live. I am not aware of it.

At the hospital
Indira: (sitting on bed forced by Rishi and Shwetha and yells ) please leave now..rishi Shwetha
Shwetha: You can shout as much as you can, no problem. (to her assistant doctor and nurse) Go and get the radiation treatment ready. (They go out)
Indira: (impatiently) Rishi, how can I stay here the whole day? I need to organise Mandira’s engagement for this evening. It is a necessity to be there.
Rishi: (angrily) Your life is more important than others thing Shrimatiji. Now enough of your dominance, Now you will do as I say. Just shut up and stay quietly.
Indira: (irritated) all right. I will sit and remove yours hands from me. (Shwetha and Rishi withdraw their hands from her) ok, I will also go through this radiation. But on one condition, (to Rishi) I need to have ice creams before radiation. (rishi and Shwetha are dismayed. Indira pretends to cry) can’t you fulfil some desires of your dying wife?
Rishi: all right, I will get you. But I do not want to hear all these emotional dialogues Shrimatiji ok (Indira is happy and nods her head). Shwetha, keep an eye on her. (goes out)
Indira: Oh, I forgot to tell him that I want butterscotch flavour or else he will get something else. Shall I go? (Tries to get down from bed)
Shwetha: (stopping her)No need for that. I will inform him.
Indira: thank you ,,, so sweet.
Shwetha goes out. Indira too walks out into the corridor. Suddenly, she spots Rishi coming into the corridor holding manifold ice cream cones in his hands. Indira hides her face from him and cuddles to the wall. Rishi drop a cone near her and picks it up. A man comes and blocks her path from Rishi’s sight as he passes by her. Indira looks at the man and it is Indar.
Indar: (hurriedly and sneakily) you want to go home to attend the engagement. Come let us go
Indira: (surprised) how did you know that I am here?
Indar: Hey, what are you talking about, come on, let’s discuss this at home (he drags her away from the place)

Rishi: (reaches Indira’s ward) Shrimatiji, I got all flavours’ (he finds it empty) Shrimatiji, (Shwetha enters) she has escaped now.
Indar steals a bicycle and forces Indira to come along with him in it. Indar rides away the bicycle while the owner comes yelling after them. They are almost out of breath when they reach Sharma Nivas safely.
Indira sighs in relief and laughs telling Indar how they escaped from the bicycle owner’s wrath. She gets up and tells Indar that they need to start preparations for the engagement.
Indar: (pulls her toward him and goes depressed) babli (Indira is stunned as Indar fondles her and hugs her affectionately) babli, why don’t you disclose the truth to everyone, before the engagement begins. (Indira withdraws from him and looks at him going dumbfounded) Yes, I came to know that you have brain tumor. However, I brought you here from the hospital. It is for the sake of your happiness.
Indira: (looks around vigilantly and threatens) listen here Sharmaji; if anyone comes to know about this then I will slash my throat. Did you get my point?
Indar: (in tears) but how can hide this serious matter from everyone?
Rishi enters Sharma Nivas gravely.
Rishi: (admonishes Indar) why are you supporting her uncle and the way you escaped with your stubborn daughter from hospital. that was not good. (glares at Indira and grabs her hand)
Indira: (plead) Rishi, he didn’t do anything?
Rishi: (hisses) throughout your life, he has given you only troubles and now he is pushing you towards death.
Indar: (releases Rishi’s hand from Indira’s surprising them and goes tearful) I too want to do, what you intend to do (to rishi) that my babli lives happily till the end. (Indira looks at him imploringly)
Rishi: (fumes) without giving any treatment you want to see her happy. How?
Indar: I want to see her happy in life (Indira is touched) because I have seen my own grandmother die from this same disease. I too had compelled her to undergo treatment. But, after the treatment she went through a hell of torture and had died in this way. Now I do not want to see her dying in this way.
Rishi: See uncle, from that era to now, Medical Science has advanced. Now there is a possibility of cure for every disease.
Indira: (thoughtfully) but Rishi, one thing, I will not undergo treatment freely. That is my Self-respect. I have not shown sympathy to anyone nor will I get it from her. (rishi is surprised) How can you assume that I will get treatment from Simi Diwan’s money? (Indar is speechless)
Rishi: (surprised and stutters) how did you come to know about it?
Indira: where else will you get so much money? I will rather die than undergo treatment through Simi Diwan’s money.
Rishi is saddened and stares at Indira dragging her father into the house.

The courtyard of Sharma Nivas is adorned with decoration. The engagement function of Mandira and Pappu is going very briskly. Some women are singing songs and Munna, Sunaina, and Radhe are dancing about. Indira and her mother are sitting amongst the women enjoying themselves. Rishi has distanced himself from othera and is sulking in a corner.
Indar: (comes up to him) Why are you sulking here all alone? Even the eldest son in law needs to take part in this happiness of the function.
Rishi: (confronting Indar) which happiness are you talking about? Are you listening to the song? (gulps) Your babli will go away any moment from now so. Now go ahead and tell her to undergo treatment, it is not too late. (indar walks away dumbfounded)
Munna: (runs to Rishi as he tries to go inside) hey, where are you going? Come here (drags him to the function place)

The engagement rituals take place. Kutumb places tikka on Mandira, pappu and other family members. Mr Cheda offers Shagun to Mandira and confirms the engagement. The pandit suggests that the 12th of next month is very auspicious for mandira and Pappu’s wedding. Indira and Rishi exchange stunned glances. However, Indira suggest the pandit to choose a date sooner than that. Kutumb grumbles. Later, Indira suggests a date before 28th September. Rishi gives her a stern glance. The pundit tells them that the day after tomorrow is also auspicious. Indira immediately finalises it to others amazement. Indar blurts out that it is Indira’s birthday that day. Everyone is overjoyed and acknowledge it. The dance and song begins, Rishi walks away from the crowd. Indira joins her family members in the dance and kisses Mandira. Indar looks at her with tearful eyes standing by a corner. Indira gestures him to smile and cheer up.

At nightfall, Indira comes to join Rishi who is sulking seated in the balcony of Sharma Nivas. She comes to lean on the railing beside him.
Rishi: (dejected) You think about others happiness but what about my happiness?
Indira: (places her hand on him) It is not that. I too care about your happiness. But you need to talk about things that will be successful
Rishi: Do not try to act like God who can predict everyone’s future. Time is very less. There is a sloka in Geeta that states that at least you can undergo treatment for the sake of my happiness. If you do not undergo treatment then I will not forgive myself in this lifetime. (Indira looks at him imploringly) I can save you now but not able to do it. Please undergo treatment (takes her hand)
Indira: (stands up thoughtfully) ok I will undergo this treatment but on one condition.
Rishi: (stands up instantly) Ok, I will agree to all your conditions.
Indira 🙁 fumbles a bit) ok, I will undergo this treatment when you marry Shwetha. (Rishi is shocked) please Rishi, marry Shwetha on the same mandap of Mandira and Pappu’s wedding. Please’.
Rishi: (seethes in anger and slaps her hard to Indira’s distress) Shrimatiji that day I slapped you in anger. But now I am slapping you with full consciousness so that you need to come out of your intoxication. (yells) what kind of a woman are you? I am here willing to do anything to save you. But, in spite of being my wife, You are asking your own husband to marry another woman.(pulls her roughly) what, are you trying to play God. Then it will not happen (Indira turns away and he softens, touching her cheek softly) did I hit you hard? (goes remorse as Indira sulks) I am sorry. (takes her hand) see, time is less now. Just agree for the treatment directly and undergo it soon. (Indira pulls her hand away in disgust and she receives a call on her phone. She looks at the number and going doubtful, disconnects it.)
Indira: (determinedly) Ok, You are so obstinate. You can continue with your obstinacy. Until and unless you marry Shwetha I will not undergo this treatment. (rishi stops her) Now do not stop me. I need to go.

Indira walks away and out of Sharma Nivas holding a packet of sweets in her hands. She locks the gate from outside. Rishi reaches the gateway, tries to open it, and finds it locked. Indira walks on the lane. Rishi wonders where she has gone at this time and thinks why the gate is locked from outside. Indira sits beside Simi in the rear seat of Simi’s car.
Indira; (looks at the glass of drink in Simi’s hand and offers her the box of sweet) here are the sweets from my sister’s engagement and wedding will be held in 2 days.
Simi: (appears frigid) just talk about work.
Indira: (gulps feeling awkward) yes, regarding that work, I have already told Rishi to marry another girl in order for me to undergo treatment. Now the decision lies in his hands.
Simi: (haughtily) I understand you are upset, but your fate with Ricki ends now.
Indira: (stunned by her words) but, if life has given me some more time, then I would not have let Rishi go away from me. Perhaps, God has sent Rishi as messiah to help me out from my struggles in my life in order to bring back my smile. (Simi appears disinterested). In addition, your fate is also good. Both of us have the same goal, Rishi’s second marriage. (smiles as Simi fumes at her) now see, Despite achieving everything in life you are a loser. And I despite losing everything, I am a winner. Ok fine, have these sweets. (Dismounts from the car and walks away smiling. Simi tosses the packet of sweets out on the lane as the car moves. Indira sees this and continues to smile)
