He (Dasharatha) was a benevolent and humble king- Mihir Mishra
The main character of the Ramayana is surely Lord Rama. Nevertheless, King Dasharatha, the father of Rama is an essential character of the epic too. Dasharatha was born in the noble Raghuwamsa- the legendary lineage of warrior kings tracing its ancestry to the Hindu solar deity Surya.
Mihir Mishra who is essaying the role of Dasharatha in Life OK’s Devon Ke Dev… Mahadev (Triangle Film Company) says, “He was a benevolent and humble king. It isn’t easy to portray him. Some of his actions created history and paved the path of the Ramayana.”
Essaying a historical character is a challenge compared to playing someone set in the present times as the former character cannot be created. Mihir explains. “You can’t add your nuances to a historical character. Instead the actor needs to imbibe the character with accuracy.”
There is a perpetual debate over whether the Ramayana is mythology or history. Mihir is of the opinion, “It is both mythology and history.”
Regarding the immense popularity of historical serials, he says, “Kids learn history through these shows. For adults it’s a revision of their historical knowledge. People of all ages like them.”
The actor who has essayed a variety of roles feels that his most memorable ones are that of Dr Rahul Mehra in Star Plus’ Sanjivani – A Medical Boon and his current role in Devon Ke Dev… Mahadev. Looking into the future he is open to accepting any role provided it is a challenging one.
Mihir’s hectic schedule makes it difficult for him to indulge in his hobbies- soccer, cricket and going on long drives. He adds regretfully, “Also there isn’t much space in the city to play soccer and cricket.”
