Gurmeet Choudhary to debut on silver screen with a dance film?
The actor and Nach Baliye season 6 contestant, talks about debuting in films and working with wife Debina Bonerjee Choudhary after over four years.
Looks like everyone wants actor Gurmeet Choudhary to strictly showcase his dancing skills in every venture. After winning Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5 – Dancing with the stars on Colors and already garnering great response in Star Plus’ Nach Baliye 6 with wife and dance partner Debina Bonerjee Choudhary, the television heartthrob may just shine on the silver screen with a dance-based movie.
Buzz is that Gurmeet is all set to play the lead in the directorial debut of choreographer Swaroop, who choreographed Priyanka Chopra in the famous ‘Pinky’ song in Apoorva Lakhia’s Zanjeer. Supposedly going on the floor in March or April 2014, this will be Gurmeet’s Bollywood debut.
When asked Gurmeet about his debut film he says, “I have been approached for the film and had a meeting with the makers but it is not finalised yet because I have not said yes or no yet; I want to focus only on Nach Baliye season 6 as of now.”
This is not the only film that Gurmeet has been offered; the actor admits that he has had meetings with a couple of more directors and producers since Punar Vivah (Zee TV) ended. “Other than dance films, I have been getting a lot of offers for romantic and action films, too,” says Gurmeet.
Gurmeet feels that winning Jhalak has made him eager to bag the Nach Baliye trophy too, because it would be quite prestigious and a proud moment for him to win two of the biggest reality shows on Indian television. “I don’t want to leave any trophy on TV,” he laughs.
When Gurmeet is not busy rehearsing or shooting for Nach Baliye, he has been busy meeting film makers. “I am biding my time and not taking up television offers; I don’t want to be burned out like I was while doing Punar Vivah along with Jhalak 5. I can also dedicate time to meet film directors and producers,” he says. However, his wife and actress Debina Bonerjee cannot say the same since she is also doing SAB TV’s Chidiya Ghar. “It’s tougher for her since she has to manage both the shows and we need to rehearse for about eight hours every day. She is working very hard,” he says.
Although a trained classical dancer herself, dancing with her dance champ husband has been a challenge for Debina because she has to live up to the expectations of the audiences and the judges to match steps with Gurmeet. Like he says, “Debina is a trained dancer so she has obviously mastered the art better than me but me winning Jhalak has made a lot of difference. Though she is a really good dancer, people see her in comparison to me as a dancer and that is a lot of pressure on her.” But she is taking it in her stride, adds Gurmeet, “Which is the reason why the judges called our first act on the show as good as a finale act.”
Waltzing with his wife is also making Gurmeet a happier man because the duo are working together after a gap of over four years when they were paired as Ram and Sita in Imagine’s Ramayan in 2008. “We have been so busy with our work. So it feels good to get to see more of each other because of the show now,”
chuckles Gurmeet. Before this, they both participated in Nach Baliye 5 spin-off Shriman v/s Shrimati in April this year, where they were pitted against each other and Gurmeet walked away with the best performer of the series title and a cash prize.
