Talking about her character, Preeti says, “Soniya is very independent. Her parents have passed away when she was very young leaving behind five sisters after her. She never thinks of herself and could not complete her studies. She has faced a lot of struggle in her life and she is carrying forward the business of her dad after his death. She wants to give all the happiness to her sisters so that they won’t feel the emptiness of parents in their life. She has brought up her sisters like a mother and she takes care of their every little necessities. She owns a dress shop with the help of which she tries to earn to fulfill the needs of her sisters. She is independent and she does everything in her own. In today’s time, it’s very difficult to find a guy who will accept 5 sister-in-laws too along with her wife. It’s a very big thing for a person to do so much. That’s why Soniya is hesitating to get married.”
“I can easily relate to my character. She is confident, she is independent. When I came here from my city, even I have struggled for my survival in Mumbai. So, I can easily relate to my character as I know that what kind of struggle you have to face for your survival,” adds Preeti.
Preeti is bonding really well with her on-screen sisters. She shares, “We did some workshops before starting shooting for the show and after 2-3 days only we all became like sisters and started having fun. I told all of them to call me ‘Didi’ off-set as well so that I can get the feel of being your elder sister. So, from that day, they started calling me ‘Didi.’ I feel like they all are like my own sisters. We are really bonding well with each other.”
We quizzed Preeti as what made her to opt for the show. She replied, “It’s a very different concept. The USP of our show is that five sisters are finding a jiju for themselves and the condition of Soniya for her marriage is that her husband should accept her sisters as well. It’s a very new thing.”
Preeti played a negative character in Diya Aur Baati Hum for which she was getting hate mails from the fans as well as praises too. Now she is happy to play a positive character. She says, “I have just played a negative character in Diya Aur Baati Hum and I am happy being back playing a sweet and an innocent girl. I think playing negative is over for me and I am back to play positive roles. I always wanted to play a positive character. Once a small kid told me that, I get very angry to see you doing wrong to others on TV. Why you always keep troubling others? Then, I told him that, ‘From now I won’t be doing any such things and I will be playing positive role only.’ I do get hate mails but they appreciate my work as well. Some of them say to me that they are happy to see me doing different roles.”
“Everybody is finding it very interesting. Let’s see how far we can take the show with our hard work,” concludes Preeti.
