As we celebrate the much awaited Eid today, actress Shama Sikander goes down the memory lane and shares her experience of getting Eidi during her childhood…
Eid Mubarak! With Ramadan celebration going in full swing and fervor, Eid is the most awaited conclusion of the thirty days dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire holy month of Ramadan.
In conversation with us, the beautiful actress Shama Sikander, who is currently seen in her Bhayankar Pari avatar in SAB TV’s popular show Baal Veer, shares her experience of celebrating Eid as a child and the fun it involved. She says, “Though things change as we grow up but as a child Eidi had a special meaning to me. During my childhood, I didn’t get much money to spend but on an occasion like Eid, I used to get a lot of money. As a result, I used to eagerly wait for this festival to come and the Eidi it used to bring to me. Even today, Eidi is like a lottery that you win and it used to be probably the most exciting thing in the world at that very moment.”
Shama recalls her unforgettable memories of Eid and the most precious time she spent with her family. Yet, on this special day, Shama misses her grandparents as she says, “More than parents, my grandparents used to give me Eidi and as being their lovable grandchild, I used to actually blackmail them and take more money out of them. Unfortunately, my grandparents are no more and I really miss them, especially on Eid.”
Once we grow up, we miss on some of the fun and Shama sets a perfect example for us as she says, “Now I’m the eldest in the family, so it’s my turn to bestow gifts and Eidi to all of them. But nevertheless, that’s another joy when I see kids in my family smile and get super excited when they receive their Eidi.”
In spite of the changing trends, those who prefer to gift children in the traditional way of cash also feel that giving Eidi has now become an expensive affair, consequently burning a hole in the pocket. Sharing a similar thought, Shama says, “Today being Eid, I’ll just give money to the children in my family, so they can purchase whatever they want. Kids nowadays are very different than what we were, so their demands are much more expensive and crazy.”
How is Shama celebrating her Eid today? “Just waiting for the Sheer Kurma made by my Mom, as I feel she makes the best Sheer Kurma in this whole universe. In fact all my friends crave for it. Moreover, they wait for Eid to come so they can have the special feast with Shami Kabab, Sheer Kurma and Biryani.”
We wishes Eid Mubarak to everyone!
