Concept of Devdasis has remained untouched in popular media: Sana Amin Sheikh
Sana Amin Sheikh is beautiful- there is no other word to describe the perfect feature of this talented actress. Post Gustakh Dil, Million Dollar Girl, the lady will soon be seen in Colors’ upcoming show Krishndasi (Optimystix & Vaishnavae Media Works Ltd), which will also mark her tenth show in the industry.
Geared up for the role of Aradhya, a daughter of a devdasi in the venture, we recently spoke to the lady at the launch of her show. When asked about the reason behind opting for the show, Sana shared, “To be very honest, the concept of devdasi has remained mostly untouched in popular media. We have not used the word in the title (as it would have sounded pretty regressive), as the series is not only about that typical culture but also about the journey of a girl, who belongs to the clan. In earlier days, devdasis were regarded with high esteem, however later on it degraded and came on the lines of prostitution.”
So, don’t you think that such a bold concept might not work with audience? Sana quipped, “I don’t think so. The show will follow my journey and the discovery of my past, at the same time the show will focus on a cute love story of mine and the guy, who belongs to the group of elites, who have always exploited devdasis.”
Acting for sure came to Sana naturally as she has been in the industry even as a child actor. Walking down the memory lane Sana revealed, “Well after being a part of the popular television serial as a child actor, I was even offered a role in the Manisha Koirala starrer film Khamoshi, but my mother decided that I should focus more on my studies. After growing up I became an RJ and thankfully I have been able to continue with that profession till date. My team has supported me a lot.”
Sana, who recently got married, was all praises about hubby Ayaz Sheikh. For Sana, Ayaz’s support and love has made her come a long way in her career.
We wish that your bond remains strong as always.
