CID 28th July 2012 Written Update by DemonStar
Scene 1 – A Dark Room
The episode begins at a dimly lit room where a gravely injured Roma is seen bound to a chair while the captors – two guys and a girl (only silhouettes seen) – stand in front of her, checking her purse. The girl approaches Roma, frisks and removes her mobile. One of the guys checks her I.D card and is surprised to see that she is a trainee CID officer. The girl is distressed to hear this and says that her colleagues will certainly be coming after them. They start wondering what to do. Roma pleads for some water. The girl is about to give her some, but one of the boys stops her saying that Roma must perish if they are to survive. The other guy is appalled at this hideous idea and says that they cannot murder anybody, but his friend is adamant and points out that she knows too much, having seen their faces and familiar with their names, and they shall all be executed if she helps the CID identify them. Eventually, the girl sides with him as well, and both of them ignore the other guy as they advance upon Roma. She sobs helplessly.
Scene 2 – The Crash Site
The scene switches to the car-crash site from the previous episode, where we see Daya sir, Purvi and Nikhil on top of a small cliff overlooking the crevice where the car had fallen. Nik hands Daya sir a set of ropes and ties one of their ends to boulders on top of the cliff. All three of them gradually climb down to the car, which is seen lying on its side, and push it upright. Daya sir instructs them to thoroughly search the vehicle and collect all possible clues. Purvi takes photographs of the insides, while Daya sir checks the trunk. Nikhil finds coal tar upon the pedals and mat under the driver’s seat. Daya sir concludes that the driver must’ve been to some place with a road being constructed or repaired.
Scene 3 – The CID Bureau
Dr. Tarika enters the CID Bureau with a report showing that they’d made out the imprint of a lady’s sandal upon the tar-streaked mat found in the car, adding that the deep impressions indicate the presence of high heels. Daya sir wonders if the girl in question was Ranbir’s lover Sanjana, but then recalls the video footage of the party and points out that there was no tar upon her sandals there. Vineet says that it must’ve been a second girl driving the car, but Nikhil points out that the petrol pump dude had said there were only two guys and a girl in the car. Daya sir wonders where the tar came from, since the road leading from the petrol pump to the spot where Roma’s torn hair was found is in pretty good condition, without any repairs or construction in progress. Rajat says that the girl must’ve dismounted at some spot before the petrol pump; Vineet argues that it’s something quite odd to do at night, on a desolate road like that. Daya sir decides to question people in the area before the petrol pump for the girl.
Scene 4 – A Desolate Road
Abhijeet, Fredericks and Shreya are seen driving along a deserted road in the Qualis. Shreya says that the route must be between the petrol pump and the club, and asks Abhi sir if they mistakenly crossed it already. Fredericks wonders if the construction work is still under progress. Abhijeet wonders why the girl was compelled to dismount at a half-constructed road at nighttime. Abruptly, Shreya notices something and calls out for the car to be stopped. She points out a section of road perpendicular to the one they’re driving on, with the tarmac clearly fresh. Abhi sir says that it could be the one, and tells Fredericks to lead them through it. He notes that it’s a pretty desolate area, and again wonders why either of those two girls had to dismount there. Eventually, he asks Fredericks to pull the brakes and they dismount, where he points out a desi liquor shop on the side of the road and reminds Shreya that two cheap liquor bottles had been found at the spot with the torn hair and bloodstains, implying that the girl had dismounted to purchase the drinks here.
They meet the shopkeeper and Abhijeet asks him about the girl and two guys accompanying her, aged around 20-21 years and in party attire. The dude remembers the girl and reveals that she was dead drunk and had long nails with shiny pink polish. Fredericks shows him Sanjana’s photo, but he says that he hadn’t been able to see her face properly in the darkness, but had noticed the nails because she had been repeatedly holding her head to steady herself. He adds that she’d been wearing a T-shirt and jeans. Abhijeet realizes that she wasn’t Sanjana, since the latter had been wearing a different blue dress. Fredericks asks if he’d seen the other passengers in the car; the guy says that he’d heard a girl screaming inside it, but didn’t see her. Abhijeet wonders who this second girl was, and where Sanjana had been at that time. Freddy starts to come up with a small lecture about how they mustn’t be confused, almost leading to him being left behind as the other two leave.
Scene 5 – The CID Bureau
In the bureau, Daya sir says that Sanjana is unlikely to have been the driver of the doomed car, and they must find out about the other mysterious girl. He thinks about Tanuj, Ranbir and Sanjana and says that anything could be possible as these fellas are unpredictable and could’ve been trying to purposefully mislead them. At this point, Aditya Kumar and the family members of Ranbir’s friends enter and demand to know where their children are, insisting that they’re innocent. Daya sir and Rajat coolly say that they are deliberately absconding after committing two murders, and add that they’ll be severely punished once caught. Mr. Aditya angrily demands proof for their claims, but Daya sir sharply points out that their son’s absence despite being a prime suspect is reason enough for them to issue an arrest warrant against him.
Mr. Aditya mellows a bit and requests to have their kids found, attempting to explain that they must’ve fled out of fear; Daya sir says that they’ve committed two murders, likely including a CID officer, and holds that they’ll be mercilessly convicted once found. Rajat criticizes the parents for overly pampering and spoiling their kids, leading to them straying out on the road to crime. Daya sir instructs them to tell everything they know about their kids. Sanjana’s mother explains that she’d gone shopping with her friend Neha and never come back. Neha adds that she’d received a call from Ranbir in the mall and had left with a hasty goodbye, and says that the driver must know where since he’s the one who drove her away. Mr. Aditya says that Tanuj had visited their house at around 3:00 PM and both he and Ranbir hastily left soon. The third guy’s father says that he’d taken a black Margin (?) car with him. Daya sir says that the three of them must’ve met at some particular pre-decided point, and says that they must track down Sanjana’s driver in order to find out about the location of the same, for that’s where the investigation must begin.
Scene 6 – Highway
The Qualis is seen driving along the highway; Sanjana’s driver eventually asks them to stop and points out the location where he’d dropped off Sanjana – a signpost of Mumbai and Panvel ahead. Abhijeet asks him if he didn’t ask why she wanted to dismount at a desolate spot like that; the guy says that she didn’t like being questioned and simply told him to go back and tell her mom that she’d be coming back late; he has no idea what happened after that. Abhi sir wonders why Tanuj and Ranbir must’ve called her there urgently, and instructs Fredericks and Shreya to search the surrounding area for clues. He follows tire marks leading deeper into the woods, while Fredericks finds Ranbir’s car concealed under mounds of foliage in the thicket.
They search it and come up with nothing significant; Shreya says that it’s been meticulously wiped clean. Fredericks finds a used syringe lying on the ground near it; Abhijeet notices some liquid still present inside it, and construes that Tanuj and Ranbir must’ve knocked out or murdered Sanjana by injecting her with the same, after summoning her there. Fredericks wonders why Ranbir would do that to his own girlfriend; Abhi sir says that she must’ve found out about their plans, necessitating them to silence her. Shreya wonders what they must’ve done with the body; he says that it must’ve been concealed in the forest like the car, and tells them to search for it. They do so, and come up with nothing. Abhijeet says that they must’ve taken Sanjana with them, but wonders how they managed to get away since Ranbir’s car is still in there. Freddy reminds that Ranbir had more cars at his disposal, and he decides to search further down the route.
They get back in the Qualis, where Abhijeet explains that Ranbir and Tanuj couldn’t have gone back towards the city, as they wouldn’t have planned and summoned Sanjana to that desolate spot otherwise. Fredericks points out that they’d immediately be apprehended if they did, since all checkpoints and toll-booths have been put on alert and supplied with their photos. They arrive at a fork with a rough route leading towards Revagaon, and the pucca one directly ahead leading to the highway. Abhi sir says that they must’ve likely taken the former, because the other involves passing through a police checkpoint. They drive down the road to Revagaon. Shreya wonders why Ranbir is out on the gruesome killing spree. They drive into what looks like a farmhouse’s fenced boundary, and take a detour through the woods to come up directly at the grounds flanking the rear of the building.
Scene 7 – The Farmhouse
Inside the garden of the farmhouse, we see the two guys and girl (faces not revealed) digging a pit while Roma lies unconscious upon the grass, with a gun placed upon her. They soon finish and approach her; one of the guys picks up the gun and hands it to the other, telling him to shoot her, but his friend refuses and says that it’s the other’s turn since he’s already committed a murder. They argue for a while, and the first guy eventually gives in and hesitantly prepares to shoot her. The girl eggs him on and says that Roma must die in order for them to survive. Before he can pull the trigger, they hear the Qualis pulling up beside the farmhouse and decide to flee, abandoning Roma there. Abhi sir and the others enter the farmhouse and start searching the place. Shreya finds fresh blood upon the couch; they draw their guns and rush upstairs, where they find Ranbir, Tanuj and Sanjana bound and gagged, unconscious. Abhijeet does a quick scan of the surrounding rooms while the other two untie them.
He concludes that the three of them are clearly not culprits but victims, and construes that the actual killer must’ve summoned them to the desolate road, knocked them out and taken them to the farmhouse in his/her own car while hiding Ranbir’s in the forest. He asks Freddy to take them to the hospital. Shreya recalls that the girl with tar-smeared sandals had been with the three too; Abhi sir asks them to search the place thoroughly for her. They do so; Shreya goes out towards the garden and finds Roma lying unconscious upon the ground. All three of them rush and, noting that she’s still breathing, attempt to rejuvenate her. Roma gradually regains consciousness, but is in extreme pain. Abhi sir, Freddy and Shreya are upset but attempt to console her and say that she’ll be alright; Roma cries and says that she had much left to learn from them. They ask her to identify the assailants, but she’s too intensely agonized to be able to speak properly, and succumbs to her injuries moments before she can name them. The three cops are devastated and mourn their colleague’s untimely death, getting flashbacks of their brief but fond memories with her. Fredericks furiously swears that he shall not rest until the killer’s corpse is dangling from the noose. Abhi sir says that Ranbir is certainly very familiar with them since it was their summons that he, Tanuj and Sanjana had answered. He adds that they must’ve definitely been present at Ranbir’s birthday bash as well.
Scene 8 – A Dance Club
Fredericks and Shreya are seen in jovial disguise at a dance party while Vineet surveys the place’s CCTV footage from the control room, and remarks that the killer(s) had cunningly planned to have Ranbir, Sanjana and Tanuj framed for their dark deeds, and sadly the three innocents cannot identify them as they’re still in a coma. He goes on to praise Freddy’s disguise and dance. Ranbir’s ponytailed friend, Rahul, calls everybody to gather around for a surprise, and announces that he’s decided to produce a film, has already shot a trailer for it and will show the same to them right then. He signals for it to begin, and a projector is switched on. In the trailer, we see a crimson car driving into a petrol pump and the driver – a girl with long, pink nails – honking repeatedly. Two heavily drunk guys rave in the rear seat. The petrol pump dude comes up and is annoyed by their ramblings. In the party, a girl is shocked to see the footage and two guys standing beside attempt to console her (none of their faces are revealed).
Back in the trailer, the friends continue to gibber drunkenly and hand the petrol fella a generous tip before driving away. The action switches to the desi liquor shop whose owner is seen preparing to call it a day. Just as he turns off the lights, the car pulls up ahead of the shop and the drunken girl staggers out, her face hidden due to the car’s headlights being directly behind her. She purchases two bottles of booze while we see the two guys rambling drunkenly inside the car in the background. Back in the party, the girl and guys are clearly uncomfortable and wonder if Rahul knows everything. In the trailer, a couple is seen arguing about their car having broken down; the man says that he’s called for a mechanic. Meanwhile, the red car passes by them and they ask for a lift. The car pulls up next to them, and they get inside before it drives off. In the rear seat, one of the drunken guys starts misbehaving with the girl. Her boyfriend, Virat, futilely tries to stop him and calls for the car to be stopped. When it isn’t, he threatens to call the police and the other guy has the car stopped.
Just as Virat dismounts, he sees guys starting to molest the girl and one of them shoots him in the chest. The girl attempts to break free, but the guy seizes her by the hair and violently rips it up, gravely injuring her. In the club, the audience is appalled at the onscreen violence. Meanwhile, the real-life liquor shop owner and petrol pump guy quietly enter the room near Shreya and Fredericks. The guys and girl are alarmed at this as they’ll be doomed if the two identify them, and wonder if the CID itself had them summoned. In the control, Vineet explains who the two of them are to the operator, and tells him to watch closely as the killer will certainly panic at sight of them. A waiter comes up to the liquor dude, discreetly delivers a note and leaves without another word. The note reads both of them to come up to the club’s terrace. They wonder why, but decide to do as asked anyway.
Scene 9 – The Terrace
The killers – Ranbir’s cousins Ishaan, Vishal and Siddhi – turn up on the terrace and start jeering at the two. The two men turn around… and they turn out to be not the witnesses but Vineet and Rajat. They ask the miscreants to surrender, but Ishaan asks the other two to back off while he confronts the CID. Vishal and Siddhi flee; the cops attempt to stop them, but Ishaan draws a gun and shoots at Rajat, grazing his arm. Both he and Vineet take cover behind the alcoves; the former reminds Vineet that the guy must be captured alive. He enters a thick barrel and rolls down the length of the terrace while Vineet advances from the side. Ishaan futilely fires at the barrel until he runs out of ammo, and attempts to flee before being tripped by Rajat. He asks Vineet to ring up Daya sir and inform him about the other two’s escape, before capturing Ishaan.
Scene 10 – A Road/The CID Bureau
Vishal and Siddhi rush out of the club and hurry into their car. Just as Vishal hits the gas and begins to drive away, Daya sir turns up at the terrace and looks down at the departing vehicle. He leaps down and lands upon the car’s roof. There’s a chase sequence in which he attempts to lunge at the two of them through the windows while repeatedly ordering them to stop the car, but they refuse and attempt to shake him off. Finally, he draws his gun and shoots out one of the car’s tires, leading Vishal to lose control and crash the vehicle into a tree. He drags Vishal out of his seat and hands him a jaw-shattering SLAP ™.
In the bureau, the three wayward culprits confess that they were the ones who murdered Virat and Roma. They were drunken beyond their senses when the couple asked them for a lift, as their car had broken down in middle of nowhere. There’s a flashback scene which plays out almost identically to the trailer in the club scene, with the actors obviously being replaced by Roma, the real Virat and the three killers. Rajat criticizes Siddhi for not attempting to help the victims despite being a girl. Vishal says that they’d only told Ranbir a cover story about them getting into an accident with another car and assaulting its passengers in the ensuing argument, nothing about the actual murders.
(Flashback)
We see an angry Ranbir at the highway, who seems to have learned the truth. He rages and storms at his cousins for lying to him and brands them vile murderers, saying that he was forced to wipe the car clean and destroy evidence in order to save them. Sanjana frets if the CID will find out about their heinous deed. The three cousins attempt to apologize, but Ranbir repeatedly stresses upon the gravity of their crime and advises them to go confess everything to the CID. Obviously, the three of them are in no mood for that – when the others aren’t looking, they darkly draw the deadly syringes.
(Flashback ends)
Daya sir condemns the three miscreants’ despicable crimes, and points out how their reckless drinking led not only to two innocents’ but their own lives being destroyed. He adds that they shall now rot in prison until death greets them at the gallows.
