Scene 1 – A Dance Bar
The episode begins at the scene of a dance bar at nighttime. One of the girls in there, Julie, is seen flirting around with men flaunting cash at her. Eventually, a drunken-looking guy named Raja makes advances and starts reproaching her for ignoring him. After messing around with him a bit, she leads him out towards her makeup room, pointing at the door and informing him that someone is inside. Raja is delighted and lavishes praise upon her. Julie leaves as he pulls a white handkerchief off the top of the door and enters the room.
Once inside, he locks the door and sobers up at once, turning to face an unseen person at the camera. He apologizes for having them summoned hastily, and begins to explain that he’s discovered something extremely shocking. Meanwhile, Julie returns and calls out for Raja, to no avail, and is unable to open the door either. She fetches the bar’s owner and two bouncers for help, and explains the situation to them. Upon experiencing the same, the owner instructs the bouncers to break open the door. They enter the room and find Raja’s corpse lying on the floor, shot through the chest.
Scene 2 – Julie’s Room
Abhijeet, Purvi and Nikhil are seen examining the body at the crime scene. Abhi sir examines the bullet’s entry/exit wounds and notes that the guy had clearly been shot at point-blank range. He estimates that the killer must’ve opened fire while standing near the door, and instructs Nikhil to recover the bullet. Nikhil complies and finds a gunpowder stain near the A.C on the other side, but the bullet is nowhere to be found in the vicinity, leading Abhi sir to construe that the killer must’ve taken it away along with them.
He interrogates the owner, who reveals that the guy was one of their customers named Raja, and used to come alone to meet Julie everyday as he was quite interested in her. Purvi questions Julie, who explains that Raja had instructed her to leave the back door open as someone was about to come and meet him, and that the same person would be leaving a white handkerchief on top of the door to signal his/her arrival. Nikhil suspects her of being involved in the murder; she forcefully denies it. Purvi says that the unknown person who met Raja is the likely killer. Abhijeet asks the crowd if anybody heard the gunshot, but they deny it. He analyses the situation and remarks that the killer seems to have been well-prepared. He adds that the person was undoubtedly someone whom Raja was very familiar with.
Scene 3 – The Forensic Lab
In the forensic lab, Dr. Tarika is seen sampling a piece of flesh from Raja’s bullet wound for examination. ACP sir impatiently checks his watch and asks her about Dr. Salunkhe; she says that he said it’d take him about an hour to get to the lab. ACP sir is indignant about not being informed of the same, and being kept waiting. At that moment, Salunkhe arrives and gets to work almost immediately, profusely apologizing for being late and explains that he’d been held up in traffic due to heavy rain.
ACP sir isn’t satisfied and points out that they’d been through the same weather on their way to the lab. Dr. Salunkhe approaches the corpse but stops abruptly as his eyes fall upon it. ACP sir is quick to notice and questions him about the same, asking if he knows the man. Salunkhe quickly denies it and unconvincingly attempts to cite the bullet wound as the reason. He asks for more time to complete the required postmortem procedures. ACP sir is enraged and storms out of the lab followed by Purvi and Vineet, leaving Tarika and Dr. Salunkhe in the lab. He’s clearly disturbed and wonders who could’ve killed the guy. Tarika attempts to press him with questions, but he dodges them and asks her to fetch the murder details.
Scene 4 – The CID Bureau
In the bureau, Vineet informs ACP sir that he’d been working on opening Raja’s file since the morning, but it’s been firmly blocked and wouldn’t budge. ACP sir wonders if it’d been hacked, because no files in their database had been blocked till then. He instructs Nikhil to contact the Crime Branch and inquire about the problem with Raja’s file. Vineet says that some big-time criminal could possibly behind this mischief. Nikhil returns and reveals that the Crime Branch had refused to divulge the password or any details of the file at all. A guy in suit enters and introduces himself as Vikram from the Crime Branch. He explains that the case is a classified secret and Raja was, in fact, an undercover cop named Rohit, who had been working with one Neeraj against some drug racket. He says that he has no idea about Neeraj’s current whereabouts, and that Rohit had last contacted them two days ago from a PCO at one Kranthi chawl.
Scene 5 – The Forensic Lab
At the forensic lab, Dr. Salunkhe is seen meticulously examining Rohit’s body and, yet again, wondering who could’ve murdered him. Dr. Tarika observes him in the background. He scrutinizes the victim’s shirt and carefully removes a single hair from its surface. Tarika offers to help him, but he dismisses her inattentively. He goes on to perform a DNA analysis of the hair follicle and notices that it doesn’t belong to Rohit. He’s surprised, and suddenly wonders in shock if it could possibly belong to someone else in his mind. He tests for another match, and this one is successful. He’s shocked and muses that his suspicions have been confirmed. Trying to (unsuccessfully) make sure that Tarika isn’t looking, he collects the forensic details and reagents associated with his tests and works briefly on his computer before swiftly exiting the lab, ignoring Tarika’s questions. Suspicious, she checks the computer and discovers that he’d deleted some of the files in there.
Scene 6 – Kranthi Chawl
Rajat is seen walking around in disguise at the Kranthi chawl. He strikes up a conversation with a vegetable vendor in there and starts asking for Raja; the guy forcefully denies knowing anything about him. Rajat deliberately gets into an altercation with him and creates a ruckus until several locals gather around the scene. As he exits, one of them follows and starts stalking him in the alleys. Eventually, he corners Rajat at gunpoint and says that he’ll be taking him to meet Raja as he wants.
Scene 7 – Outside the DCP’s House
Dr. Salukhe drives up to the DCP’s house and notes that his car is parked outside, implying that he’s at home. He rings the doorbell and knocks on the door, which is opened after quite a while. He explains to the DCP (off-screen) that he’s got some urgent work with him, and is allowed to enter inside.
Scene 8 – Hideout
The drug-peddler leads the disguised Rajat into his gang’s den, several of whose members are seen playing carom inside and question suspiciously about the stranger. The guy asks Rajat to wait while he goes upstairs to fetch their bhai. One of them roughly frisks Rajat while the other guy talks to their boss, who is curious to learn that someone’s eager to meet Raja and comes down to meet him. Rajat initially refuses to reveal his reason for wanting to meet Raja, and cheekily rebuffs the aide when he attempts to threaten him. The boss tells him to hold fire and repeats the question; Rajat says that he needed to take some money from him. When he’s informed about Raja’s murder, he calmly asks for the whereabouts of Raja’s partner Dhiru instead. The boss tells him to go look for him at one Jugnu bar. Rajat leaves and, once outside, informs his colleagues about the gang’s hideout in the chawl, and instructs them to raid it.
Scene 9 – The Jugnu Bar
Fredericks is seen posing as a drunkard in the Jugnu bar, and he discreetly places a piece of folded paper inside the undercover Neeraj’s shirt while stumbling around. Neeraj soon discovers and unfolds it to find a message from the CID – informing him about Rohit’s murder and instructing to meet them soon. He’s shocked to learn about the killing.
Scene 10 – The Forensic Lab
In the forensic lab, a system engineer is seen working on the computer which had its files deleted by Dr. Salunkhe. Tarika asks if he’s managed to make any progress in recovering them; he requests for more time. She repeatedly tries to call Salunkhe, but the calls remain unanswered. The engineer gives up and, despite Tarika’s pleas, informs her that it’s not possible to recover the deleted data anymore. He leaves just as ACP sir, Purvi and Vineet enter the lab. The senior notices him and asks Tarika why she’d called him. She’s unable to answer the question properly, and ACP sir asks her about Dr. Salunkhe’s whereabouts. She briefly explains about his discovery and analysis of the hair found upon Raja’s shirt. Reluctantly, she adds how he was upset about something and deleted some of the files before leaving hastily. ACP sir unsuccessfully attempts to call Salunkhe and, growing even more suspicious, wondered what startling material those deleted files must’ve contained.
Scene 11 – A Dark Room
We see a heavily injured man firmly bound to a chair in a dark room, lit only by a single ray of light from above. An unidentified, armed captor approaches from behind, his footsteps alerting the prisoner. As the enemy approaches, it is revealed that the bound man is none other than Dr. Salunkhe. The captor walks around to face him and raises his gun from the shadows. Dr. Salunkhe chuckles defiantly as the trigger is pulled, and he collapses.
Scene 12 – A Street
Daya sir is seen on a rainy street with Neeraj, both of them discreetly talking while pretending to be occupied with something else. Neeraj says that he has no clue about the identity Rohit’s killer or why he had visited the dance bar, but remarks that he seemed to be quite disturbed since 2-3 days, and hadn’t revealed anything upon being asked. He recalls that they’d been having tea at a stall back then, when Rohit abruptly went aside on pretext of attending a call and instead proceeded to covertly eavesdrop on the chai-wallah, who was conversing with someone on the phone. Again, he didn’t tell Neeraj any details despite being asked. Daya sir decides to pay the chai-wallah in question a visit. At that point, he receives a call from Nikhil and says that he’s on his way.
Scene 13 – The DCP’s House
As the Qualis moves along a residential area, Nikhil points out that the signal of Dr. Salunkhe’s phone is visibly stationary on the GPS system, further down the road. As they drive past DCP Shamsher S. Chitrole’s house, Daya sir notices Dr. Salunkhe’s car parked outside. They peek in through its windows and find no sign of either its owner or his mobile inside. Daya sir wonders why he must’ve come to meet DCP sir, and decides to go and ask him. They ring the doorbell and knock several times, to no answer from within. Shreya says that Dr. Salunkhe’s disappearance and the DCP’s silence point towards something fishy. Daya sir breaks open the door, and they enter to find the place apparently vacant.
They call out for both its owner and Dr. Salunkhe, to no avail. Nikhil wonders why there’s no sign of the latter when his car is parked right outside. Daya sir asks them to thoroughly search the place for clues. They do so, and he goes on to find the hair and its DNA analysis report in one of the rooms. Shreya finds a bullet encased in an evidence baggie in a drawer and goes to show it to Daya sir, who informs her that the DNA report reveals that the hair found upon Rohit’s corpse belongs to none other than the DCP, implying that he’s the murderer. He examines the bullet and wonders why the DCP had hidden it away in his house.
Meanwhile, Nikhil lifts up the lid of a hollow bed and is shocked at the sight of its contents. He calls out for Daya sir at once, and they arrive to see a bloodied body lying inside, its face pulverized beyond recognition. Daya sir finds a pair of smashed spectacles lying beside it, and with a jolt, he recognizes them as Dr. Salunkhe’s. They’re all terribly shocked and upset. Daya sir, despite himself, strongly instructs Nikhil to search the room for the murder weapon, reminding that they’re on duty. A devastated Nikhil complies and finds nothing. Daya sir reminds them that the body has not yet confirmed to be that of Dr. Salunkhe and asks for it to be taken to the forensic lab, but is unable to stifle his tears as he holds up his senior’s broken glasses.
Scene 14 – The Forensic Lab
In the forensic lab, Dr. Tarika cries and refuses to proceed with the test. ACP sir attempts to explain that while they are aggrieved as well, it is extremely important to run a DNA analysis and find out if the body is Dr. Salunkhe’s or not. Vineet says that he intuitively feels that the body isn’t the doctor’s. ACP sir seconds it, but says that they have no choice but to gather evidence in support of their feeling. He and Purvi struggle to hold back their tears; the latter requests Dr. Tarika to go ahead and do what is required. Reluctantly, she does… and the DNA samples positively match with Dr. Salunkhe’s. Tarika and Purvi burst into sobs; the grief-stricken ACP sir gets flashbacks of their happy memories with Dr. Salunkhe, and breaks down in tears as he laments the death of his dear friend. Furiously, he swears to avenge him.
Scene 15 – The Forensic Lab
ACP sir forcefully, and repeatedly, asks the still crying Dr. Tarika for the reports of the bullet found at DCP Chitrole’s house. She finally tells him that she found traces of Rohit’s blood upon it. Darkly, ACP sir muses that his suspicions have been proved. Vineet asks if he feels that the DCP is the murderer.
Scene 16 – The CID Bureau
The team is seen standing somberly at the bureau, in wake of the tragic events of the previous scenes. Daya sir says that their enemies and criminals should’ve gone after them, rather than Dr. Salunkhe, for revenge. ACP sir furiously says that it is one of their own side – DCP Chitrole – who is responsible for the murder. He construes that Dr. Salunkhe must’ve come into possession of some striking evidence against the DCP, and says that the latter will have to dearly account for his actions. Vineet says that they’ll have to hunt him down first, because his phone’s been proving to be untraceable as well. Daya sir says that they can get to the DCP via the chai-wallah, whom Neeraj had seen being eavesdropped by Rohit before his murder.
Scene 17 – The Tea Stall
The team arrives at the tea stall in question; a guy in there informs them that he’s just a stand-in for the shop while the chai-wallah went somewhere with a well-dressed bloke who’d come to meet him. Abhijeet notices that the description matches the DCP’s and shows him a photo for confirmation; the guy recognizes him and points at the direction in which they’d left. They drive off and Abhijeet tells Rajat to hit the gas hard, saying that the DCP was on a killing spree and could do anything. They arrive at a fork, and they wonder which route to take. Abhijeet points out that the one to the right leads to a crowded basti, and says that they’re more likely to have gone down the left one.
Scene 18 – A Deserted Area
DCP Shamsher Chitrole is seen fiercely questioning the terrified chai-wallah, Chotu, at a desolate forested area, who claims that he knows nothing. Shamsher is concerned that his life is in danger and says that he shall not remain carelessly ignorant of his would-be killer (ladies and gentlemen, here’s the dialogue of the month – “main apna Hiranyakashipu nahin hone doonga” ). Chotu continues to forcefully claim ignorance, leading the DCP to furiously hold him at gunpoint. The Qualis arrives at the scene and Abhijeet notices Shamsher’s car parked in the vicinity. Meanwhile, its owner continues to question the vendor and then pulls the trigger in frustration.
Abhijeet and the others are alerted by the gunshot and swiftly turn up at the scene, pointing their weapons at him. The senior pretentiously greets Abhi sir and attempts to leave, but they leap over the railing and tell him to stay still. Abhijeet is shocked to see the fallen chai-wallah; Shamsher claims that he’s simply passed out. Abhijeet tells Rajat to go check up on him. Shamsher attempts to give them the slip again, but Abhijeet warns him to stop, lest he pull the trigger. Shamsher is affronted, but Abhi sir ignores it and forcefully asks him to hand over his gun. Shamsher eventually complies while offering not-so-subtle threats. Rajat comes up, shocked, implying that Chotu is dead. Shamsher quietly says that he’d thought the vendor had simply fainted. Abhijeet darkly gestures him to follow them into the Qualis.
Scene 19 – The CID Bureau
In the bureau, Shamsher shouts at Chotu for lying and getting him into trouble by fainting (eh? Hadn’t they implied that he’d been killed in the previous scene? ). He claims that Rohit was killed not by him but Chotu, and attempts to intimidate the already terrified vendor into agreeing on the same. ACP sir warns him that such attitude is not acceptable in the CID bureau. At this point, Tarika arrives with the forensic report of the bullet. ACP sir tells her to fearlessly hand it over, while Shamsher threateningly says that she’s not supposed to deliver the report to the ACP in his presence.
However, ACP sir takes the file and, ignoring Shamsher’s reproach, Tarika defiantly announces that the bullet recovered from his house had been confirmed to be fired from his gun, and adds that he is the one who murdered Rohit. Shamsher angrily accuses the team of sycophantically following ACP sir, and threatens to ravage their career. Abhijeet brushes aside his threats and says that it’s time for him to answer questions connected to Rohit’s murder. ACP sir comes forward to support him and asks the DCP about how his hair came to be on the victim’s corpse. Daya sir raises the question about Rohit’s blood being found on the bullet fired from his gun. Shamsher claims that he’s being framed, and agrees that he’d met Rohit, who’d informed that his (Shamsher’s) life was in peril.
Abhijeet and Daya sarcastically wonder who it could be, and ask if Rohit had said anything about his would-be killer’s identity. Shamsher does a quick yes-no change for an answer, and angrily advances towards Chotu, saying that he knows everything. Abhijeet stops him and sternly questions the guy himself, who says that Shamsher had instructed him to tell Rohit that the DCP was about to be murdered, in order to get the undercover cop to panic and come out of hiding to meet Shamsher, allowing him to kill him. Shamsher attempts to threaten him, only to be stopped by Abhijeet again, and warns them all of dire consequences. ACP sir instructs them to have Shamsher taken into custody. At this point, the snazzy Adaalat theme music kicks in as everyone’s favourite rockstar lawyer, KD Pathak, enters the bureau and asks ACP sir to wait as he’s decided to take up the DCP’s case and defend him in court. He shows him the official documents and shakes hands with Shamsher, saying that he believes him to be innocent and will prove it in the court, adding that the truth shall prevail in the end.
