    FIFA WC 2014: PREVIEW: Tonight, can Lionel Messi be for Argentina, what he is for Barcelona?

    Tonight Argentina will kick-off their World Cup campaign against Bosnia and Herzegovina, but a big question that will be troubling every Argentina supporter – Can Lionel Messi deliver for the national side the way he does for his club Barcelona?

    WILL THE REAL MESSI STAND UP?
    Messi is known for his exploits for Barcelona FC, but whenever it comes to the national side that too in the World Cup, the talisman falls short.

    This is a player who scored 131 goals in two seasons for his club team from 2011-2013 — but his scoring rate for country isn’t much close. He has scored 40 goals in 82 appearances, including a goal-less 2010 World Cup and 2011 Copa America.

    HEAD TO HEAD
    Argentina have faced Bosnia and Herzegovina twice and have sealed convincing win both times, so much so that the later have not even managed to score even a single goal suffering 7 goals in all.

    ARGENTINA’S STRENGTH & WEAKNESSES
    Argentina’s attack is its biggest strength, Along with Messi, names like Gonzalo Higuain and Sergio Aguero, supported by the able Angel Di Maria are enough to keep the rivals on their toes.

    However the Argentina’s defense is not as strong as their attack and mid-field, questions about their defense persist, especially on the left side where they are using center back Marcos Rojo, and when it comes to set pieces.

    BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA’S STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
    Like Argentina, Bosnia & Herzegovina’s strength lies in their attack and weakness lies in their defence.

    Bosnia’s shift has been towards helping an underwhelming backline, with head coach Safet Susic opting for a more defensively sound 4-2-3-1 formation. It takes away from some of their attacking potency, but if playmaker Miralem Pjanic can link up with Dzeko and the likes of winger Senad Lulic further up the field, they could be in with a shout.

    This match promises to be an absolute entertainer. Even though Argentina are frontrunners for lifting the cup, but it will be complacent of them to think of Bosnia and Herzegovina as pushovers.

    The match starts at 3.30am IST on 16th June.
