Balika Vadhu 24th December 2012 Written Update

Scene 1:
Location: Udaipur haveli
Amidst dancing and merriment, ira gets anandi down for the MUNH DIKHAAI ceremony. Shiv too comes down. Meanwhile, sanchi’s friends arrive. on alok’s instructions, mahi attends them along with sanchi and also healthily flirts with them to make them feel comfortable. An aged lady asks to commence the ritual now. The MUNH DIKHAAI ceremony starts with dadaji. She takes everybody’s blessings and accepts the gifts humbly that they give her. Then ira, meenu and alok come and give their gifts seeing her face. Relatives too join the ceremony. Then sanchi sees anandi’s face. She then evilly tells anandi to open the gift to see if she likes what sanchi got for her. while anandi is feeling awkward, others too are tensed at sanchi’s strange behaviour. She opens the gift to reveal a jeans and top. while she is awkward and others unhappy, she still makes a brave face and says that even though she doesnt wear clothes like that, she still would keep it forever with her. then mahi comes in and says that instead of giving, he is in a mood to get a gift from his sister in law. he says that he needs a bful girl like her as his wife. anandi says he himself is capable of doing that and doesnt need her assistance. He then does the ritual, and anandi gives him her gold chain. after completing the ritual, she is them allowed to life her veil and show her face. Shiv says that its about time, dadaji catches him commenting and instantly starts pulling his leg. Finally she reveals her face.

Meanwhile, sanchi’s friends are talking to sanchi about feeling that anandi is not downmarket as she had described and in fact she gave sanchi a bful vintage gift that shows she has excellent choice when it comes to jewellery. sanchi si still unconvinced as to what shiv saw that he rejected thousands of girls to settle for her. when her friends suggest that she introduces them to anandi, an evil idea comes to her mind and she instantly agrees. Shiv also introduces his friends to anandi who joke about how she had tied the most eligible bachelor of the town and put a restriction on his freedom. dadji comes in and invites everybody to have food. Menu and ira tell anandi to sit there while they attend to the guests while they eat.

When everybody is gone, sanchi gets her friends to introduce them to anandi, and she tells them that anandi is from an unknown village called jaitsar while talking in english. She hopes that now anandi would be embarassed to talk in english with her friends. But she surprises her by talking to them in english fluently saying how her village was a district now and that shiv was its first collector and thats how they had met. She then asks the girls if they had anything to eat, and sends sanchi along with them to make them feel comfortable. Sanchi leaves feeling dejected. While watching all this, shiv and his family who were concerned for anandi, were now feeling pride in the way she handled the situation. Ira excuses herself from meera.

Meanwhile, sanchi, when she is cornered by her friends that her sister in law seems very intelligent and smart, tells them that she is a divorcee and has been in fact a balika vadhu. while her friends are surprised by this, her relatives are all the more surprised hearing this from sanchi and demand to know under what compulsion were her parents forced to marry off their only son to a divorcee and that too a child bride. They demand to know if shiv has any fault that the had to settle like this. ira faces them and tells them that she takes pride and honour in the fact that her daughter in law is anandi, who is a one in a million girl and that she’s far better than any of the million unmarried suitors they had for anandi. But her relatives do not reciprocate the feeling and say that she might not care for the society but she has to live in it and hence has to go according to its norms. had that been the case, she could have done the rituals alone instead of calling them if she had to insult them by saying that she doesnt care what the society thinks. they thank her for calling them and also congratulate her for anandi but also apologize for not being able to take part in any further rituals. After they leave, sanchi doesnt let go of the oppurtunity to point it out to ira that this is what she was afraid about and the drama that she expected that she would have to face for anandi coming into their house. She also says that this was the reason that she didnt want to humiliate herself in front of her friends which had just happened. The screen freezes on ira’s face who is not only hurt by her relatives but alos at the insensitive maturity of their daughter.

Underlying Message: People with orthodox thinking still exist in today’s society. such people do not care for the worth of the married couple, rather they judge them by their past.

Precap: Anandi performing yet anothe ritual with her new family. Khajan taking his leave from dadisa, is told by her that from now on, he has to involve himself in everything that happens in this haveli. He humbly accepts and nods.
