Balika Vadhu 21st December 2012 Written Update

Scene 1:
Location: Udaipur haveli
Another ritual begins in which the bride and the groom have to search for a ring in a bowl of milk, in which the ring is dropped along with other metallic things. Anandi and shiv begin to search for the ring. Their hands meet and they share a romantic gaze. however shiv wins and gets the ring before anandi. while everybody is enjoying, sanchi doesnt let go of this oppurtunity to taunt anandi, about not being able to do something so petty. mahi defends anandi saying that she deliberately lost to let shiv win. Ira tells anandi to go in her room to freshen up and get ready for the next ritual, THE MUNH DIKHAAI ceremony. She takes anandi up to her room instructing her to come down asap. Meanwhile downstairs people are pulling shiv’s legs that till all the rituals arent done he wouldnt be allowed to meet anandi or be in the same room with her.

In her room, anandi sits on the bed seeing all the things ira has arranged for her, dress, jewellery, ornamentation. She remembers how her family was crying bitterly when she was leaving. she thinks to herself that they must be missing her bad.

Downstairs, mahi is talking about dadisa’s haveli when sanchi comes storming in saying that she’s furious that mahi had called her friends to come there. He says he did so on ira’s instructions. Sanchi says that the reason she didnt call them at the marriage, was because she didnt want to embarass herself in front of them because of anandi. Anandi hears this from the balcony and is hurt. everybody is angry and shocked to hear this.

When anandi turns away, she finds meenu standing before her. She asks her awkwardly if she needed anything. She says she wanted something from her bag. Meenu says that she would get her bag for her and takes her inside the room. There she apologizes for what sanchi said. Anandi says not to worry as she had already told her once, that with time, sanchi would forget her anger and that they would become good friends. meenu blesses her and leaves to get somebody to bring anandi’s bag to her.

In sanchi’s room, alok is very angrily telling her that this is his last warning to her to behave in front of the guests and that he would not tolerate her ill manners and taunting anymore. He asks her to attend the guests with mahi and not do any more drama to insult them further. sanchi gets a call and she excuses herself to tell her friend the address of the haveli. Mahi assures alok that he would be with her and see that she behaves properly.

Responding to a knock on her door, sanchi opens the door to find dadaji standing. He comes and advises her that all her life, her hole family has forever granted every wish and whim of her, said or unsaid. She begins to say that she agrees on that but dadaji cuts her and continues that shiv has already married anandi. and its very pitiful that sanchi has forgotten her mannerisms in front of people. He says that anandi is not a guest but the daughter in law of this house, and when she married shiv, she developed a relation with everybody in the family along with her. She says that leave alone long life, she doesnt even want to spend a second with her. He reprimands her from having grown so much, from a time when she didnt know how to speak and that with the help of ira she learnt all her alphabets and that now she is so mature that she is using them to answer back to her elders and that the sweetness that ira tried to instill in her behaviour is pouring out bitterness today. Sanchi says that they feel she talks bitter because she speaks the truth. He says that she’s trying to give her ill manners the garb of truth and saying that he is utterly disappointed in her, a child of their family, which he never thought he would, he leaves.

When coming down a disheartened dadji is stopped by a fuming alok, who guesses that talking to her was of no benefit. In his fit of rage, he says that he has had enough of her misbehaviour towards anandi, in her own house and now god knows in what proportions in this house too. He says that how must anandi who has faced so much in life, be feeling. he decides to send her to her hostel back. But dadaji tells him to stop as haste and anger spoils everything and tells him to calm down. Even if sanchi’s behaviour towards anandi is a matter of concern, this is not the right time for it, as he doesnt want a scene in front of guests. Alok simmers down.

while putting vermillion on her forehead for the first time after her marriage with shiv, she remembers how sumitra had stopped her from putting sindoor when jagiya had left her for gauri. she thinks to herself that there’s still time in the ritual to start and she could sneak a call to her family. Just as she is about to, she gets a call from shiv. she picks up saying that she didnt know their haveli was so huge that a call had to be placed to talk from different rooms. He tells her since he cant be with her, he called. He expresses his discontent at the way he is not being allowed to be with her even after marrying. She tells him that since elders made these rituals, its bound to have some meaning. while he is still showing his disapproval at it, ira enters and seeing anandi talking to someone. anandi says that its shiv on the phoen. ira takes her phone and aftre listening to shiv’s complaints, she surpries shiv saying that she wouldnt let shiv talk or be with anandi till the rituals are over. Embarassed, shiv cancels the phone. anandi nods her head telling ira she’s ready to go down. The screen freezes on her face.

Underlying Message: Prejudice, not only narrows a person’s thinking and perception of people and situations, it also takes them far away from the truth and renders them incapable of knowing whats right and wrong.

Precap: The MUNH DIKHAAI ceremony starts with dadaji. Then sanchi sees anandi’s face. She then evilly tells anandi to open the gift to see if she likes what sanchi got for her. while anandi is feeling awkward, others too are tensed at sanchi’s strange behaviour.
