Case 89: Body on the Beach

A naariyal paani waala begins his business day at the beach.He asks his assistant to bring a couple wooden benches kept at a distance & place it near the handcart.The boy comes back with only one saying some drunkard is sleeping on the other.Enraged the coconut seller charges at the sleeping figure & kicks him.A dead body of the man with a plastic cover over his head falls down.The fruit seller & all passerby are shocked.ETF is called.

Arjun & Rathore walk into the crime scene.Liza, Aisha, Chotu & Sakshi are already there processing the crime scene.Liza gives basic details to Arjun. Rathore moves to question the fruitseller.The man is scared & says he only wanted his bench back so he kicked the man.He didnt kill anyone.Rathore orders his statement be taken.Aisha tells Arjun he might want to question the fruitseller himself.Witnesses said that the man had charged at the sleeping man with a chopper.But Arjun instead questions the neighbouring stall owner.Due to prior enmity the man tries to pin the murder on the coconut seller saying he is a short fuse & had already spent time in jail for assaulting another customer.Arjun listens silently.

Liza identifies the man as Vishwas Choksi.Arjun finds a gift wrapped diamond ring in the dead man’s pocket.Its for some Divya. Liza finds some more artefacts from the man’s pocket.

Aisha & Chotu land at the Choksi house & enquire about Vishwas.They don’t say that he is dead.His wife says her name is Divya & that Vishwas is in Ahemdabad.He had just sent her an SMS from there.Both Ash & Chotu shocked.Divya & Vishwas’ father are taken to the ETF office & they break down seeing him dead.Rathore & Ash extremely distressed seeing them.

ETF meeting.Arjun rules out the coconut seller as a murderer.

Arjun & Sakshi at Choksi House.A prayer meeting underway. Sakshi says she does not want to be there as she s disturbed by grieving people.Arjun asks her to observe as that will help to solve the case.A man & woman walk in & is received by another man.they are jayant & his wife, brother & sister in law of Vishwas.The other man is Bacchu Bhai, Vishwas’s best friend. Both the men embrace and grieve for the dead man.But Divya yells at Jayant that he was the one who wanted Vishwas dead & he should stop pretending to be sad at his death.jayant’s wife fights back.Vishwas father is more grieved by this & asks everyone to behave themselves.Arjun is quietly watching all this from the sides.

Rathore calls Arjun & tells him Vishwas was using a phone that was registered to Bacchu.It was from this phone Divya had received a message from her husband long after he was dead.That phone was now inside an investment firm Miranda & Miranda.Arjun says Rathore should go chase that lead.Sakshi is startled at hearing Miranda & says that the company is a fraud.Her uncle lost all his money there.Arjun is lost in thoughts.

Rathore & Aisha walk into the company offices & introduce themselves to the head Mr Miranda.Thinking them as potential investors the man gives them an oily sales talk.Both Rathore & Aisha rubbish his talk & imply that he may have murdered Vishwaas. He informs them that Vishwaas was angry that he lost all his money here but he did not murder anyone.A peon is listening fearfully while serving tea.He then tries to escape but is caught by Chotu.
Rathore beats him up & he confesses to being paid Rs 1000 & given the phone to send that message.They show him Jayant’s photo but he says that wasn’t the man who gave them the photo.Aisha warns the man against escaping again & all leave from there.

Arjun still at the shokh sabah.He then interviews Bacchu & asks him about the family. He tells them about all the business losses Vishwass has been facing.There was Rs 2 crore loan on him.Arjun asks about the fight in the family but Bacchu downplays it saying it was just a minor tiff.Bacchu tells them Vishwaas loved his family very much & could go to any length for them.Arjun looks thoughtfully at Bacchu.

Jayant is hauled off to ETF & interrogated by Arjun & Rathore. He says his brother used him in business 7 when he was about to get a contract he made him work for another’s business.He says his brother was selfish that’s why he left home.Arjun & Rathore inform him of Vishwaas’s dire financial conditions & he is shocked.

ETF in a meeting & going over facts. Arjun says Vishwaas’s best friend Bacchu Bhai holds all the answers & they should go talk to him.

At the Choksi house all are gathered.Arjun once again questions Bacchu about Vishwaas & he gives evasive answers. An insurance agaent comes there & informs them that Vishwaas had taken a policy of 5 crores & the beneficiaries were his wife & brother.All are shocked.bacchu tries to leave but Arjun intercepts him.he once again asks some very pointed questions & Bacchu breaks down & tells his story.

Vishwaas had lost the last penny in business losses, had sold his home & was a very broken man.At this time he asks his friend to help him by killing him.He had taken out a huge insurance policy which will benefit his family.Bacchu refuses but Vishwaas keeps begging him & he finally gives in.He murders him on the beach.He also gives Miranda’s peon the phone & money to send the sms as he wanted to trap Miranda also.

Arjun heartbroken to hear all this but says he has to arrest him.Aisha begs rathore to make Arjun withdraw the case as Bacchu’s & Vishwaas’s sacrifice will go waste as they wont get the money if it was proved that Vishwaas planned his own murder.Arjun says he respects her emotions but justice has to prevail.The thought was noble but the action was criminal.

A sad Arjun walks around the beach.Mujhko yeh zindagi plays in the background.Episode ends.
