After Chatur, Durga Ganguly to turn negative in SAB TV’s Jeannie Aur Juju

It seems that the past is enchanting TV viewers more than the present. This is precisely why the popularity of historicals, mythologicals and costume dramas is on the rise. Recently, Life OK’s Savitri (Flying Turtle Productions) went hundreds of years into the past. We have already reported about SAB TV’s Jeannie Aur Juju (Eagle Telefilms) to be going 200 years into the past.

In the previous episode you have seen Jeannie (Giaa Maanek) discovering an old story book titled Amar Prem Kahani which tells the tale of a prince who was in love with a commoner. The king who also happens to be the prince’s father was vehemently against this match. The prince was Captain Vicky (Ali Asgar) and the commoner was Jeannie in their previous births. The setting of this romantic saga is Rajasthan; which currently seems to be the favourite setting of historicals and costume dramas.

Though the primary focus will be on Vicky and Jeannie, the minor characters will have prominent tracks too. As reported earlier, Chatur Ganguly (Ashiesh Roy) is about to turn negative with the story going back in time. His character which will go by the name Chitra Sen, will be the prince’s uncle who will try to usurp his kingdom. He will go to the extent of wanting to murder his nephew.

Our source informed us that Durga Ganguly (Jhumma Mitra) who plays the cute and hilarious Bengali housewife will turn into a villainous scheming woman by the name of Bhanmati. The actress will be dressed in gorgeous ghagra cholis for this past life’s role. She will be playing Chitra Sen’s wife who along with her husband will plot against the prince so that he can be banished from the kingdom after which she hopes that her husband will be the king and she will be the queen.

Jhumma will forsake her Bengali accented Hindi and be speaking with a nasal twang like the speech of the movies of the 1940’s which was in chaste Hindi. The actress excitedly told us, “This character gives me an opportunity to diversify as an actress and break the set notion in the audience’s minds. It is fun to do the nasal twang as it keeps the comedy quotient alive, which is Durga’s forte.”
