Maut ka saaya – Part 1

It’s a tempestuous night and father Vas lands at a mansion. He gets out of his car and his eyes shift to the window of a room. A lady was noticeable behaving in a weird manner. Father rings the doorbell. Suddenly some flies come and he gets disturbed. Mrs. D’sa opens the door and tells him about her daughter Susan’s terrible state. Dr. Pinto, Susan’s sister Joan, her boyfriend Vivek and an old lady Andes are present.
Father moves upstairs and enters Susan’s room. He sees everything in a muddle and Susan sitting lowering her face. He goes near her and she asks him how he is. Her voice wasn’t her own but a male voice.
One week later ‘
KD is approaching towards Father Vas’s lockup and Dave in the midst advices him not to fight all the cases like this. Prosecutor Jamshed stops him midway and introduces himself. He then asks KD to tell his client to accept his crime; he will try his level best to reduce his punishment. KD replies that an innocent person shouldn’t be punished for a second even.
KD enters father’s lockup and is asked does he believe in god? KD replies he believes in humanity. Father tells to leave the case as he won’t be able fight with a devil.
Scene shifts to a graveyard and a grave is focused, that’s Susan’s grave.
In the court, prosecutor begins disclosing Susan’s personal and college life and explains how her life changed suddenly since past one and half months. He calls Dr. Richard Pinto in the witness box. Dr. Pinto reveals that about one and half month ago he was called by Mrs. D’sa as Susan had high fever. He went to check her and observed her pulse rate was high, she was complaining about stomach ache. He then injected a medicine and spotted flies stuck near window. Suddenly, Susan started behaving in a strange manner and her voice started shivering. Flies entered right at the moment.
The prosecutor utters KD might ask whether that was a side effect of the medicine he injected. Pinto replies he thought the same at first but Susan never had any kind of allergy from medicines. He further explains Susan’s condition started getting worse and voice shivering, pandering and stomach ache were common. Doctor then reveals something strange happened a day. KD questions regarding that and Dr. Pinto says Susan’s mother can explain it better as she only told him.
Mrs. D’sa enters the witness box and reveals that Susan woke up at 3:00 Pm, every night.
Flashback ‘
Susan is sleeping in her room. Her bedside clock strikes 3 and its alarm wake her up. She wonders who set the alarm as she didn’t do that. She inhales a burning smell and checks from where that’s coming but doesn’t find any source. Suddenly, a man’s voice calls her and utters he’s under her bed. Susan bends down and screams seeing two scary red eyes. Her mother and sister enter and they fail to spot whatever Susan saw. There were flies stuck in the window and Andes present there, near the door.
Mrs. D’sa then reveals Susan often saw such strange things and even faces since that night and it seemed as if she’s not Susan but someone else.
Next to enter the witness box is Vivek. KD asks him about his relation with Susan and Vivek replies she was his girlfriend. He reveals one night when they were going back home after extra lectures, he stopped an auto rickshaw. Susan started screaming seeing the driver and the men around the area. KD inquires did he tell this to her family. Vivek replies he told and then says her mother took advice from Dr. Pinto who called Dr. Vijay.
Dr. Vijay enters the witness box. He declares Susan was suffering from psychological disorder and he was treating her with “Drug salbutol” but she stopped her treatment in the midst, due to father. Father believed some devil or ghost was controlling her body.
Prosecutor further blames father and says he stopped her medical treatment and started his own religious one. Susan died due to multiple organ failure and father Vas is responsible.
KD goes through some papers and utters that “Drug salbutol” is an expensive medicine and questions Vijay which company makes that. Vijay tells him the medicine is prepared in his own company. KD says he must be advertising his company product then. Vijay rejects and clarifies he can’t kill anyone for a profit of a few thousand rupees.
Father in his defense, utters there was a devil controlling Susan and she stopped her treatment on her will as she too believed she’s being controlled by an evil spirit.
KD shows Susan’s photo before her death to Vijay and asks him to focus on her hand. There was a face visible, KD questions is this due to her disease? Vijay replies he’s clueless. Prosecutor states Susan died due to carelessness and vows father’s penalty will be a model. He forces father to confess his crime.
KD talks to father in the lockup and says court doesn’t believe in evil spirits. He asks him to speak what he saw. Father declares nobody would believe the truth he saw. He reveals that ten days before Susan’s death, he was in her room, uttering a prayer. Susan was lying down on her bed and she slept. At sharp 3:00 PM, she started laughing in an evil manner and the voice wasn’t hers but a male person was laughing and asked how he is. He asked the evil spirit who he is and told him to leave Susan’s body. The evil spirit laughed and uttered Susan will have to pay for what her ancestors did. He then placed his locket on Susan’s forehead and she became normal.
KD wonders what Susan’s ancestors would have done. Father again asks him to leave the case and says he doesn’t want him to be in danger. KD doesn’t understand who will try to harm him and father speaks the spirit who killed Susan is in search of another person now, he will make his life hell.
Vivek is shown sitting near Susan’s grave. He stares at a card given to him by Susan and tears that. A girl Priyal comes from behind and says he needs someone now, after Susan. Vivek clarifies he loved Susan and nobody else. He leaves the place and Priyal picks up a piece of the scratched card.
In office, KD sits staring at a lot of books related to spirit. He wonders what he will be proving. He can’t prove that Susan died due to disease as father will be in problem and he doesn’t believe in spirits so won’t prove anything like that even. He further discusses the fact with Varun that father uttered the same things that Susan saw, at 3:00 PM and wonders why just that particular time.
Andes enters and swears Michael is back to seek his revenge. She asks Varun to bring water and her walking stick falls down. KD picks that up and hands over to her. She then reveals that Susan’s Grandfather Alex killed and engraved Michael’s dead body somewhere in the house. She then swears the spirit won’t leave anyone. KD asks why the spirit is back now and didn’t come before. She says someone may have disturbed his spirit.
Scene shifts to Dr. Pinto approaching towards the D’sa mansion when a man Mr. Nehra stops him in the midst. He reveals that Susan’s death isn’t due to spirit or disease, it’s a plan. He utters something in Pinto’s ears and tells him not to expose this to anyone.
Scene shifts to KD’s office and KD says he doesn’t believe in whatever Andes said. Varun gets a call from his girlfriend and KD asks him to go or else she’s doubt him. Varun leaves and KD starts reading the books related to evil spirits.
At sharp 3:00 PM, he stirs hearing an alarm. Just a moment after, he spots flies in his office and begins shoving them away using a newspaper. Suddenly, voice of the same spirit disturbs the silence and KD recalls whatever father said. He gets extremely disturbed and bends down his knees holding his ears tight while the voice continues disturbing and uttering something like,” Crysto ka badla”.
Someone enters and places his hand on KD’s shoulders, he’s Varun. KD gets up and presses his neck, Varun is stunned. KD gets back to his senses and sits down. Varun gives him a glass of water and he spots a fly inside which wasn’t there actually as Varun fails to spot. KD thinks about his condition.
In the D’sa mansion, Dr. Pinto checks Susan’s younger sister Joan. Mrs. D’sa tells him that her condition is getting just like Susan. Andes tells her to sell the house as Nehra gave a very nice offer. Mrs. D’sa rejects and proclaims she won’t sell the house.
KD meets father in the lockup. He tells KD that whatever happened to him wasn’t a co-incidence. KD utters he read a lot of books and didn’t sleep since three nights so something must be related to that. He wonders what will he speak in the court and father tells him he has decided what to speak.
