Public Prosecutor KD Pathak – Part 1

A boy Adarsh is watching television and then only the phone rings. He calls his mother and she talks to the caller. She refers to someone named Rathore who called her husband and he went to meet him. All of a sudden, there’s a bang on the door, her husband Sudhir enters and begins packing his stuff in rush. She asks him what’s the affair and he tells her that he has been trapped and needs to run away.
Police siren is heard and Dave enters the house. He takes hold of Sudhir and tells his wife to look at the television to make out what he did. The news channel reveals about a bomb blast that took place in the Registrar office Sudhir worked in. He was accused of tossing a kerosene bomb in the office. As per the news, 11 people were deceased, 45 wounded and 50 were still jammed inside the building. A man (face isn’t shown) watches this news on television, calls someone and laughs.
KD watches the same news in his office and someone calls him. He addresses the caller as sir and tells him he’s coming in a little while. The man asks KD to prosecute Sudhir and hands his case file to him. He tells him that they have been pressurized by the CM and he suggested his name.
KD inspects the case file in his office. Scene shifts to Sudhir who’s standing gloomily in jail and then to his family where his wife is with their children. After that two men (Face not shown) are shown celebrating and one of them seems to be the same person who was made known earlier.
KD is done with the file and he calls the man who appointed him as the prosecutor. He tells him that Sudhir is guilty and he’s ready to prosecute him. The man asks him to sign some papers just to make sure he won’t fight any other case before this one is closed. KD agrees.
In the building where Sudhir lived, a man reads the news about KD being the prosecutor and concludes that nobody can save Sudhir now.

In the court, KD arrives and a man Pachori introduces himself as the defense lawyer of Sudhir. He tells KD that he’s a big fan of him and the “Nagin case” is still a popular issue in his village. He further declares that he won’t make any efforts from his part as the result is known.
KD stares at the people sitting in the court and the judge asks him to begin. He utters that on 14th July at 1:30 PM, a bomb was thrown in Registrar office by Sudhir that caused a major damage of lives. Sudhir defends himself and says he didn’t do anything. He further reveals that Rathore, his senior had suspended him a week ago. A flashback is shown ‘
Sudhir enters Rathore’s cabin and tells him that the amount he filled, is 2.5 crores less than what it should be. Rathore argues with him for no reason and just to accuse him wrongly, he himself disorders the files and disturbs his collar. He further accuses Sudhir who’s taken away by the security men.
Then Sudhir tells KD that he remained at his home for 4 days and then Rathore called him again. He asked him to meet him and felt guilty for what he did. KD then claims he threw the bomb. Sudhir tells him he got to know that Rathore went somewhere and hence he waited for him outside. Suddenly, he spotted his bag that he used to carry his lunch. He picked that up and there was a bomb inside. His colleague Natrajan passed by and so he had to hide that behind.
Pachori is busy solving some puzzles in a newspaper.
Natrajan comes in the witness box and reveals he had clear view of the bomb that Sudhir tried to hide. KD questions regarding the relation between Sudhir and Rathore and Natrajan accuses Sudhir on this basis. Witnesses come and accuse Sudhir. A man Shastri comes and says he doesn’t work in the office, he went that day for some registry. He further utters that Sudhir bumped on him and he spotted the bomb and lighter. KD shows a lighter and reveals that Sudhir’s fingerprints are present. He further shows a shirt strip found in the bomb. Sudhir’s wife identifies the strip that’s of his son Adarsh’s shirt. KD claims Sudhir used the shirt to make the kerosene bomb.
His next witness is Sudhir’s neighbor Tatya, an 80 year old man. He reveals that Sudhir came to his house on 12th night and asked for some kerosene oil. Sudhir rejects Tatya’s statement. His defense lawyer Pachori stands and says sorry to Sudhir. He asks him to accept his crime.
Sudhir accepts the claims on him are true. He further utters that his father told him to support the truth always but he forgot to tell him that if everybody wants to hear lie, truth doesn’t work. Everybody thinks he’s a murderer and his wife is among them. He asks the judge to punish him as he doesn’t want to be alive in a world where people like Rathore live freely and he is in this state. He tells KD that he killed his truth.
The clock strikes 5 and KD stares at Sudhir. He’s taken away by the policemen. KD witnesses Tatya who falls down and is helped by a few men.

In office, KD doubts that Tatya is old and he would have misunderstood some other person as Sudhir. Varun reminds him that he’s not the defense lawyer of Sudhir. KD tells him he fights for truth and will save Sudhir if he’s innocent. He asks Varun to go to Tatya’s house, at night.
Varun arrives outside the building and disturbs the lights. Tatya lights up a candle and then there’s a knock on the door. He’s unable to identify Varun and taking advantage of this; Varun introduces himself as Manohar and asks for a candle. Tatya wonders how he lost his weight and Varun exposes himself.
He reports the entire matter to KD and he concludes that Tatya has night blindness. He meets the man who appointed him as the prosecutor and requests him to break the paper bond. The man doesn’t accept his request, KD leaves.
In the court, he hands a file to Pachori in which some questions were written regarding Sudhir’s defense. He requests him to raise those points and believes he can save Sudhir.
Session begins and Pachori doesn’t raise KD’s questions. KD signals him to speak and finally interrupts when the judge is about to give his decision. Pachori doesn’t raise those questions, instead he asks the judge to have some mercy on Sudhir which is rejected. KD is stunned and the defense rests. KD questions where the file is. Pachori gives evil expressions and a flashback is shown ‘
Just after KD moves away, Pachori calls someone and reports the matter. The man asks him to lose the case and he dumps the file into a dustbin.
In the present, he rejects KD gave any file to him.
KD goes near Sudhir and questions did he went to Tatya’s house. Sudhir doesn’t answer. He further questions regarding Tatya’s eye sight. Pachori objects and reminds KD that he’s the prosecutor. KD handles the situation and expresses his doubt on Tatya’s involvement. He calls Tatya in the witness box. Tatya denies he’s involved in the blast. KD doubts he made the bomb as he has been the professor of chemistry. Tatya defends himself and utters his eye sight is weak. KD inquires how come he concluded that the person who demanded for kerosene oil was Sudhir. The judge objects and understands KD’s intentions.
KD decides to remain quite like Sudhir. The judge gives his final decision; Sudhir is to be hanged till death under section 302. Sudhir begins clapping.
The judge begins to leave and KD hands over the papers to him. He declares that he’s no more bound by those papers. He moves towards Sudhir and introduces himself as his defense lawyer, KD Pathak. Sudhir is happy and he holds his hand.
