Qatil saas – Part 2

Episode opens and Sarju is called in the witness box. KD concludes that the window was open as the window is in west direction. Wind blows from the east and hence the gas gets off. Sarju confirms and says the gas went off thrice. KD then states that a person standing outside the window threw a burning matchstick inside and this is the reason Avni’s dupatta caught fire.

The prosecutor says there must be around 10-12 feet distance between Avni and the window, so how could a small matchstick be thrown near her. KD affirms she can do it as well and asks her to try. The prosecutor takes matchbox from Sarju and throws a burning matchstick at him but her attempt fails when the matchstick doesn’t get near him. KD encourages her and utters,”Zor laga ke haiyya”. She fails yet again and then KD tries standing 15-16 feet away from Sarju, he succeeds in his attempt.

He claims the person who killed Avni must be a family member. He then turns to Sarju saying that he too was at home. Sarju defends himself and says he wasn’t near kitchen. KD asks him did Mrs. Patel tell him to bring kerosene. Sarju accepts she did. KD further inquires if she told him face to face. Sarju tells him that she writes the items on a slip and keeps that somewhere. He takes the slip out and goes to market. The prosecutor hands the slip to KD and tells him the handwriting is of Mrs. Patel.

KD dips the slip in kerosene and the last item i.e. kerosene gets spread while rest of the text remains like before. KD terminates that Mrs. Patel wrote this slip using a ball pen while the last item is written using a micro tip ink pen. Why she would use two pens, someone else has added kerosene to the list. Sarju gets afraid and utters he didn’t do as he doesn’t know how to write.

KD calls Pramod Kadam in the witness box. He reveals that Avni’s was his sister Savita’s best friend and he too was a good friend of her. KD inquires regarding the calls of him on Avni’s number. Pramod tells him he called her to know about her health and didn’t know she’s dead as he was in Delhi. KD reveals she didn’t pick any call of him even before her death. He then states Pramod loved Avni. Pramod rejects at first and KD exposes his tattoo of Avni’s name. Pramod accepts and says it was a one sided love. KD utters he was outside the house the day she died. Pramod accepts he was outside and at the same time swears he didn’t kill her.

He then reveals that Avni often told her problems to his sister and one day he heard his sister talking to her. He got to know Avni’s father-in-law too, was with her mother-in-law.
Shashikant is called in the witness box. He defends himself and says he had requested Avni to explain Sharad not to leave the house. Avni didn’t accept this as she was sick of Saudamini’s tantrums. KD doubts he may be the one outside window. Shashikant tells him he wasn’t, he was lightning his cigar at that time.

Prosecutor tells KD not to doubt the family members and find out how kerosene came on Avni’s cloths. KD calls Sharad in the witness box. He reveals that Sarju had pressed Avni’s cloths.
Sarju comes in the witness box and says there wasn’t a single drop of kerosene then. He discloses the fact that Ketki had entered the room after he pressed Avni’s cloths. She told him that Amod has called him upstairs but when he went up, he got to know he wasn’t called.

Ketki comes in the witness box and says she pressed her saree and didn’t touch Avni’s cloths. KD asks did she meet Avni when she was on her way to the kitchen. Ketki rejects she met her. KD further inquires where she was at the time Avni’s dupatta caught fire. Ketki tells him she was on the roof and KD asks what she was doing. Ketki replies she went to dry her cloths. KD utters someone must have seen her there on the roof and Ketki reveals she was on the stairs. KD begins staring at her and she feels strange and scared.

In the office, Mrs. Billomoria repeats KD did a big mistake taking this case and claims the family members are involved. They all hear people marching against KD and Saudamini outside. Mrs. Billomoria requests him to leave this case as police won’t be able to control the crowd every time and they will enter their office. Varun doubts Pramod is involved in this case. KD tells him they don’t have a proof against Pramod.

Avni’s parents Mr. and Mrs. Shastri enter. KD consoles them and states that Saudamini is innocent. Mr. Shastri reveals that four days before Avni’s death she talked to her mother and asked for 20 lakhs. She said that Sharad needs the money and there will be a problem if she doesn’t get that. Avni requested her mother not to tell anything to her papa. Mrs. Shastri clarified she can’t hide this from her father and Avni hung up saying that problem is something else.

Mrs. Shastri claims Sharad killed their daughter and he’s hiding behind accusing his mother.

In the court, Sharad is the witness box. He rejects he asked for money and killed his wife. Suddenly, he looks at Amod and concludes he must have asked for money as he has the same amount of debt. Amod accepts he had requested Avni to demand the amount from her parents taking Sharad’s name.

The prosecutor questions regarding this matter’s relation with Avni’s death. KD utters that Saudamini killed Avni due to jealousy as per her views, then why she had fixed an amount of 20 lakhs for both her daughter-in-laws. He further says that the other person would have got the entire amount after one’s death. So the money would be Amod’s wife Ketki’s. KD asks him where was he at that time. Amod replies he was talking to Jignesh regarding the money, in his room. The prosecutor hands over the phone records to KD. The clock strikes 5.

Sharad is in KD’s office. He claims just his mother can kill Avni. He reveals a childhood incident when he was 9 years old and a honeybee bit him. His mother burnt that bee. KD advices him to meet his mother once to know she’s innocent. Sharad tells him to prove his mother’s innocence, it’ll be a favor. Sharad leaves.

KD thinks about Sharad’s outfits, tiffin etc. and utters he’s being cared a lot nowadays. KD tells Varun to go to Patel house and explains him something in silence.

In the court, KD questions Saudamini who was the one behind the relation of Sharad and Avni. Saudamini reveals she was the one and the family members including Sharad were against this decision at first. KD asks the reason behind Sharad being against and Saudamini reveals he loved someone else but she detested her as she was characterless. Sharad was about to leave the house for the girl but later he agreed to marry Avni.

Sharad comes in the witness box and confirms this. He utters he fell in love with a wrong girl and she was nowhere near Avni. KD asks if he has any contact with his ex-girlfriend. Sharad rejects and says he broke up with Renuka since his marriage.

KD discloses that he’s living somewhere else nowadays and asks the location. Sharad replies he’s living with his friend in Andheri. KD asks the name of his friend and Sharad questions regarding the relation of this question with the case, prosecutor supports him. KD states he wouldn’t have asked the query without any relation. He changes the question and asks the person is male or female. Sharad tells him he’s male, Arvind Thakkar. KD utters he’s speaking lie; he’s living in Malad with Renuka Shroff.

He later speaks about his new shirt, shining shoes and homemade tiffin plus swears someone whose wife died recently won’t have a mental state to do anything properly. KD claims he loves Renuka yet. Sharad accepts and reveals he’s going to marry her soon; it’s his personal matter and has no linkage with the murder.

KD claims he always wanted to marry Renuka and therefore made this plan. Sharad says he would have left his house then. KD declares he would have been out of his property and therefore he didn’t take this action. Sharad speaks he wasn’t in the kitchen. KD claims he sprinkled kerosene on Avni’s cloths and shows him a diya. He was lighting the dia while Avni’s cloths were on the bed.
He hands over the forensic report to the judge in which disclosed there was kerosene oil’s trace on the diya. Sharad confesses he killed Avni throwing the matchstick and blames Renuka for everything. He exposes that he told him to marry Avni and asked him to act as if he’s very happy with her. Recently she made a plan to trap his mother and kill Avni. The judge orders police to arrest Sharad and Renuka.

Mrs. Saudamini Patel is shattered. Sharad bends down to touch her feet and she moves backward. She tells KD that truth won but a mother lost.

KD at the end says that a child remains in his mother’s lap and after growing up he remains in her heart, don’t break it.
