Adaalat 11th August 2012 Written Update

Qatil saas – Part 1

Episode opens with a lady Mrs. Saudamini Patel scratching the photo of her son and daughter-in-law from the mid as if she was all set to separate them. She throws her daughter-in-law Avni’s photo. Loud screams of a lady are heard.

Scene shifts to a hospital where the Patel family arrives with Avni, totally burnt. Her husband Sharad blames his mother Saudamini.

Two hours earlier ‘
In the kitchen, Saudamini and her servant Sarju are present. Sarju goes out to serve tea to the family members. Avni enters and she’s scolded by Saudamini. She begins blaming her that she separated her son from her and accuses her mother for this type of act. Outside the kitchen, her elder son and daughter-in-law Amod and Ketki’s sons are playing cricket and a shot breaks the tea cup with Saudamini’s husband Shashikant Patel. After a few moments, Avni’s screams are heard and all rush in the direction. They find her dress burning and the fire caught her body rapidly.

In the present, Avni’s parents rush to the hospital and the doctor declares Avni dead. Dave arrives and asks Sharad about this incident. He tells him it’s a murder, his mother killed his wife. All people present there are stunned.

KD and Varun are in KD’s car on the way to somewhere. Varun reads the news regarding Avni in newspaper. Dave calls KD and informs him about the case.

Saudamini’s elder son Amod and daughter-in-law Ketki are talking to her. KD arrives and both of them leave. KD asks her personal view on this case. She tells him just them both were present inside the kitchen and her dupatta caught fire so nobody would believe her. KD again repeats his query and she tells him she didn’t kill Avni.

In KD’s office, Mrs. Billomoria swears she won’t let him fight this case. She continues her lecture and KD tells her to let him play the game and he hasn’t taken this case yet. Mrs. Billomoria questions why he sent Varun to Patel house then. KD replies he sent him to know the truth. Mrs. Billomoria then utters family members might be involved and this case is just like the serial she watches,”Aangan ki tulsi”. KD utters, “Superb”, makes a face and begins to play the game.

At the Patel residence, Ketki is standing gloomily getting flashbacks of whatever happened. Avni’s mobile phone rings and she picks it up but nobody responds. This happens yet again. Dave and Varun arrive at the residence. They witness Amod talking to a man Jignesh regarding money. He spots them and they all enter the kitchen. Varun takes photographs and asks whether the window was open or closed. He gets a reply that the window was closed. Varun further asks what Avni was wearing. Ketki tells him she was wearing a normal Salwar suit and there’s another similar one. Varun asks her to bring that with dupatta.

Mobile phone rings yet again and this time Dave picks that up. Nobody responds as usual. He keeps the phone with him and Varun spots two burnt matchsticks. Dave packs them in an evidence kit.
KD observes the photos in his office and asks Varun to get the case papers. Mrs. Billomoria wonders how he concluded Saudamini’s innocence through two matchsticks. Varun utters KD sees what world doesn’t.

In the court, Prosecutor Mrs. Menka Sharma begins narrating the saas-bahu drama. She goes near Saudamini and utters she’s dressed like Nirupa Roy and did something like Lalita Powar(LOL). Saudamini states she didn’t kill Avni. They both were arguing in the kitchen and suddenly Avni’s finger got cut. She felt the smell of kerosene oil but Avni didn’t. Then she went to take the bandage and spotted Avni’s dupatta catch fire as soon as she turned around. She further declares she doesn’t know anything regarding the fire. The prosecutor doesn’t believe and reveals that her fingerprints are present on the box containing kerosene oil. Saudamini tells her she had picked the box up to see what’s inside and kept it later. Prosecutor utters did the box became Mr. India and everything happened accordingly. Nobody else was present inside the kitchen.

She looks at KD and asks him why he’s sitting like the hero of a silent film. KD asks her to resume, he’ll speak later. Prosecutor calls her first witness, Sharad. He states who else would kill his wife except his mother; just two people were present inside the kitchen. He then reveals that he had decided to depart and live in a separate house as he was sick of his mother’s behavior towards Avni. He swears his mother won’t get place in hell even.

KD then gets up; the prosecutor joins her hands and says everybody is eager to hear his Amitabh like voice. Arrangements are made like Avni’s kitchen in the court and the dimensions are same. KD measures the distance and concludes that Avni was standing 7 feet away from the gas and her dupatta was around 3 feet so how could her dupatta catch fire through the gas. He later claims her dupatta caught fire via matchstick.

He questions Sharad how gas is lighted in his house. Sharad replies that lighter is used. KD states that matchsticks wouldn’t have been needed then and there was no matchbox found. Prosecutor says that must have been thrown away. KD further questions how the fire became enormous with such a small matchstick. The prosecutor acts to sprinkle kerosene over him followed by acting to utilize the matchstick. KD understands and tells her that the kerosene must fall down on the floor then, but police didn’t get such traces on the kitchen floor. He concludes that Avni’s dress already had kerosene. The prosecutor questions why she didn’t get the smell then. KD tells her that Avni’s nose was lodged as she was sick.

KD then asks Sharad didn’t he get any such smell, Sharad tells him he didn’t. Prosecutor then declares it’s a close room murder and Mrs. Patel is guilty. She calls her husband Shashikant Patel in the witness box. He states his wife never thought anything off beam about anyone despite her coarse behavior. But Sharad was her weakness and after his marriage she changed. He reveals that one night she affirmed she can do anything but won’t let Avni separate her and Sharad. Saudamini questions what he’s saying.

KD asks him did ever express she wants to kill Avni, Shashikant rejects. He reveals that he saw Sarju taking kerosene oil inside the house and when he asked, he replied that Sauamini asked him to bring that. Saudamini wonders why Sarju took her name as she never told him so.

The prosecutor accuses her and blames KD even. She says he should feel ashamed and now people will raise their voices against him. KD tries to explain something but the judge interrupts and says it’s just a case for KD as he’s a man, being a woman she can understand Menka’s feelings. She tells KD to bring a strong proof in favor of his client as she’s going to give a tough decision.
In the office, KD gets flashbacks of the case. He hears people raising their voices against him outside his office. Mrs. Billomoria says he did a big mistake taking this case. KD remains unsure whether he did so.

Ketki and Amod are talking regarding the money Amod has to return. Amod tells Ketki he has a plan and she asks what that is. Amod asks her not to act as ignorant as she must be aware.
Scene shifts to KD’s office where he’s observing the photos taken by Varun. He wonders whether the window was open or close. He asks Varun regarding the missed calls on Avni’s number. Varun tells him police traced the number and that’s of Pramod Kadam, Avni’s friend. KD asks him to find out information about Pramod.

Pramod is shown talking to someone on phone. He has a tattoo of Avni’s name. He tells the person he won’t marry as there’s nothing left now. Varun asks him why he called Avni after her death. Pramod replies he was in Delhi and didn’t know about her death. He rejects to answer further and leaves. Varun takes his photo and calls KD.

KD is in the lockup and he asks Varun to send Pramod’s photo to him. KD asks Saudamini if she knows someone like Pramod Kadam and she fails to recognize. KD shows Pramod’s photo to her and she tells him she saw him outside her house, the day Avni died. KD then asks her about the kitchen window and she says she doesn’t remember whether that was open or close. KD then inquires did the gas get start in one attempt. She replies that Sarju had tried three times.
