Sunil Grover back in Kapil’s show? Not so fast…he has a movie lead in his kitty
Premature news reports that Sunil Grover will return to Comedy Nights With Kapil (Colors), the show he left to pursue his own televised comic show that failed, has left sources close to Grover fuming in disbelief.
A friend of Grover says the reports are misleading. “The channel Colors and the producers of Comedy Nights With Kapil approached Sunil with the offer that he return. Sunil decided to have an informal meeting with them. One member of the channel and a representative of the show met Sunil last week. But nothing came of it. The offer to return was made. But Sunil has not said yes or no. He will think about it. At the moment he’s completely taken up with live shows and is in the process of signing his first film as a leading man.”
Apparently Grover has been offered the lead in a desi remake of Jamie Uys’ South African comedy The Gods Must Be Crazy, to be directed by Vinay Sharma.
Says Grover’s friend, “At the moment Sunil is looking at a career in films as a leading man. Going back to Kapil’s show would be difficult, although Kapil himself as also made the offer to Sunil.”
While Grover refused to comment beyond stating that nothing has been decided the friend says, “Even if Sunil agrees to return to Comedy Nights With Kapil it would be on his own terms and conditions. He doesn’t mind playing Gutthi on Kapil’s show again. But there should be more creative freedom. The effort should be more collaborative.”
