“I believe that you should not put yourself in situations where you know you will fail.”
Says Krystle Dsouza who is playing the role of Saakshi, a daughter-in-law with a difference in Sony TV’s Ek Nayi Pehchaan. Krystle Dsouza talks about the show, her earlier co-stars and moreā¦
She comes across as a docile dame in her shows but the young lady knows to speak her mind. Krystle Dsouza will be seen as a daughter-in-law who will guide and support her mother-in-law to become an independent woman in Sony TV’s Ek Nayi Pehchaan.
Here she talks to us about her new show, her equation with Karan Tacker, Kushal Tandon and on doing reality shows.
What kept you busy after Ek Hazaron Mein Meri Behna Hain?
For the past couple of months, I was out on vacation, I travelled a lot. i also spent time at home and at the same time also did a little bit of work when I was in London. I had gone for a Diwali event and met lots of Indians who had come to celebrate the event. We had a blast and I had to make an appearance and perform in the show but had lots of time to myself too. I walked a lot when in London which is the reason I have also reduced.
Are you in touch with the team of Ek Hazaron Mein…?
I miss my team of Ek Hazaron Mein… a lot. They all have become part of my life forever. I don’t meet them often but we talk to each other on the phone all the time. I am in touch with Nia Sharma, Anupamji (Anupam Bhattacharya) and Anjuji (Anju Mahendroo). I met Karan Tacker recently at his elder sister Sasha’s wedding and we had a blast during the wedding.
After Ek Hazaron mein comes Ek Nayi Pehchaan… what attracted you to the show?
I liked it because there is no typical hero heroine kind of love or saas bahu fights. In fact the relationship between the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law is very different. I have experience lots of sister and daughter love so why not this. This show is very different and gives me an opportunity to explore myself as an actor so why not?
Tell us more about your character Saakshi in the show.
Coming from a well off family, Saakshi has an arranged marriage which is not her choice but totally her parents who want the tie-up for business purpose too. She is rebellious in the beginning since this is not what she wants but ultimately she decides to go ahead with her parents wish and then she starts loving it too.
It is said to be the story of two strong women, how is your chemistry with Sharda played by Poonam Dhillon?
Saakshi’s chemistry with Sharda is very nice, and they both love and respect each other. Saakshi feels that every woman should be educated and everyone has to take their life in their own hands and not be dependent on anybody. She keeps on lecturing Sharda about being a powerful, strong woman and on the other hand Sharda teaches Saakshi how to become a good home maker, good wife, good daughter. Saakshi learns many things from her including how to be a good human being since
Saakshi is a bit immature and doesn’t know family values.
What was your reaction when you came to know that you will be sharing the screen with veteran actress Poonam Dhillon?
I have not seen her films but my mom has and she likes her a lot. Two years back when I came on TV and started doing shows my mom had noticed that I resemble Poonam Dhillon and now I am playing her daughter-in-law so it is an amazing feeling. When my mom saw my hoardings for this show she again said that you really look like mother-daughter.
And how has been your experience of shooting with her?
I was scared to shoot with Poonamji on the first day, thinking how will she be – will she be strict and will I get along with her but when I reached the set she was very chilled out. I also found out that she her son is almost my age and she has a grown up daughter too. Poonamji was very fun loving and too sweet apart from the fact that she is so beautiful, her smile, her eyes, everything is just perfect!
Your ex co-star, Kushal Tandon created quite a stir on Bigg Boss Saath 7. Do you watch the show?
I do watch Bigg Boss whenever I get the time since I am a big fan of Salman Khan so I try not to miss the Weekend ka Wow with Salman Khan. Coming to Kushal, while shooting as Jeevika & Virat in Ek Hazaron Mein… I had very less interaction with him so we didn’t get to know each other that well. We all were cordial on the sets but after pack-up we used to go back home to our family and friends. Working together for 12 hours and more is enough for actors to stay together and then you don’t want to see each other again. Kushal did not try to get in touch with me but left me a message on Twitter saying he was very happy that I got a new show and that he misses me, which was very sweet of him.
And what about all the rumors of you going around with Karan Tacker?
We are such good friends and our bonding is so good that people don’t understand! Some do and some don’t and we cannot make everyone understand so we have decided to leave it just like that. All want to say is Do whatever you want to do man’ in Salman Khan style. (laughs)
Every actor has Bollywood ambitions these days.
Currently, nothing apart from Ek Nayi Pehchaan for me. I cannot even think of films when doing a daily soap but yes I would love to do a reality show or a dance show and let’s see if I get the time I will really want to do it. I cannot do Nach Baliye as I have baliye in real life but maybe I will try to do Jhalak Dikhla Jaa: Dancing with the Stars.
What about Bigg Boss? Ever thought of participating in it?
I cannot do Bigg Boss because firstly, I don’t think I can stay without my family, also I cannot stay for so long with unknown people and lastly I cannot shout so much which is necessary if you have to survive in the Bigg Boss house. I don’t have the courage and stamina and in real life too I don’t shout so much so Bigg Boss is not my cup of tea. I believe that you should not put yourself in such situations where you know you will fail.
