Even now when we shoot for Tumhari Paakhi, people recognize me as Laxmi – Shraddha Arya

Shraddha Arya better known as Laxmi of Main Laxmi Tere Aangan Ki is upbeat about her upcoming show Tumhari Paakhi on Life OK.

Talking about her character, she says, “I play the title character of Paakhi a 24 year old educated woman who has had a child marriage, when she was just six years old. Although my on screen parents never put pressure on me to get married to my childhood husband, yet Paakhi always felt that she belonged to him. They never met earlier but years later she bumps into him again and romance starts.”

Here Shraddha says, “This Shashi-Sumeet Productions show does not focus on child marriage as we begin the story with me at 24. Paakhi has had a normal life. She works as a tourist guide in Chittorgarh and might have even got married to someone else had the hero (Iqbal Khan) not come back. Had I been in her place even I might have reacted in the same way, as Paakhi comes across as a very realistic girl. It is but natural that if you have had a child marriage, you do carry feelings for your childhood husband into your elder years.”

The story is based on a famous Hindi novel Navvidhan written by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. Shraddha admits that, “I have not read the novel for the language is too hard and has many Bengali pronunciations.”

Since Tumhari Paakhi is also produced by the same team as Main Laxmi, Shraddha feels that her hard work in her debut show has been appreciated. “It feels like I had taken a small break and now am back to working with the same unit once more.”

Ask her why numbers of Main Laxmi never really rocked and she states, “We began well, but I think that the concept of a woman who puts money above relationships was not allowed to live its natural life. Also constant fluctuations in ratings raised a question whether the show was a hit or not. But personally speaking I got lots of name and fame, thanks to Main Laxmi. Even now when we shoot for Tumhari Paakhi in various parts of India, people still come forward and recognize me as Laxmi.”
