“I have always picked up a variety of roles.”
Says Giaa Manek who after doing a family soap Saathiya and a dance reality show is now happy with the comedy serial Jeannie Aur Juju.
Jeannie Aur Juju on SAB TV which has not created huge ripples on the TRP charts, stars the elfin beauty Giaa Manek who looks apt as a genie opposite her Juju played by Ali Asgar. However, the low TRPs does not bother Giaa who is happy doing Jeanie and Juju at the moment, “I am proud that I am the first geanie on Indian television. I have grown up watching jinn serials and it feels very good to play this role. I know that the show does not have great TRPs but it is stable on the TRP chart and we are getting good reaction from the audience.”
Talking about how the character of Jeannie keeps her happy, Giaa says, “My character has seen many ups and downs and I like every moment of it. I am not categorized in one look – I have so many changes in my looks, my dress, my hairstyle, my make-up and so also my performance. There is so much of versatility and it is the best thing that could happen to any actor. There is so much to do in one serial that it fulfills the actor in me and I can give my best.”
And that is the reason Giaa is not interested in taking up anything new at the moment, “I shoot for almost 25 days a month for Jeannie and Juju so I have no time to take up anything new. Secondly, the offers are coming in but I want to do something different. My debut show was Saathiya which was in the family genre where I played the dutiful bahu, then came Jhalak Dikhla Jaa – a dance reality show and then this – Jeannie aur Juju which falls into the fantasy-comedy bracket. So I have managed to do a variety of work which is as different as chalk and cheese each time and henceforth too I want to pick up something out of the box.”
Till that time Giaa is keeping herself busy with doing up the interiors of her new house. Giaa who always stays close to the sets of her show has recently shifted to the suburbs and is a proud home owner, “I used to stay in Thane but then my sets of Saathiya were in Mira Road so I shifted to a place which was just across the sets of Mira Road. But now Mira Road is far away from the sets of Jeanie Aur Juju which is being shot at Andheri so we shifted from Mira Road to this place in the suburbs which is closer to the sets.”
So when she is not shooting, Giaa is busy shopping, “It was always my dream to buy my own house and decorate it too. So I am happy doing the interiors as per my wish. I don’t even go out to meet my friends as whatever free time I get I go out to shop and buy stuff to do up my new house. Shopping for big things like the sofas, dining table and other things is done with but the small things which add to the beauty of the house is what I am taking care of” says Giaa as she signs off.
