Sonia Takuli and Jaideep Suri speak on their respective roles in Ghar Aaja Pardesi
In the opening episode of Sahara One’s Ghar Aaja Pardesi (Saibaba Telefilms) you were introduced to the chirpy Usha Chachi (Sonia Takuli) who had dared to break the rules of her puritanical household by taking Devika (Ruchi Savarn) to the ghat to meet her fiance.
Sonia loves to play a vivacious Usha Chachi who loves her family. The only family member she has an issue against is Roo (Pooja Banerjee). That is however not unnatural considering the fact that her son Munna (Jaideep Suri) had to go to prison because of Roo. Though her son was at fault too; any mother will be biased towards her own flesh and blood.
Roo wanted to study at the local university. Munna staunchly believed that only Indians should be entitled to education in Indian institutes. Being involved in politics, he felt that he may win the elections if he disallowed NRIs to avail the benefit of Indian education. He feels that college seats should be reserved for Indians only.
Sonia explains, “Usha isn’t negative. It is only when she is with Roo does she seem a negative or grey character. There was another time though when she seemed slightly selfish. She had gone to her husband and had demanded jewellery from him. Her plea was that she had done a lot for her family and household and had committed no evil deeds. Therefore she deserved expensive jewellery which she had seen and wanted to purchase. I like playing a character with grey shades, as it is a realistic character.”
Jaideep is also thoroughly enjoying playing Munna. He points out that Munna has many positive qualities too. “Despite the altercations with Roo, he is also a responsible elder brother to her. He also respects his Dadaji a lot. His only flaw is that he gets to aggressive at times. He should think from the brain instead of from the heart.”
