“I am happy for Ugly”
Says an elated Ronit Roy who is part of Anurag Kashyap’s film Ugly which has been selected for Cannes
Ronit Bose Roy who is currently shooting for Sony TV’s Adaalat, is a happy man this moment. News is just out that Anurag Kashyap’s Ugly will be screened at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes. Apart from being busy with the shoot of the show where he plays an intelligent lawyer, Ronit is happy with his choice of Hindi films, “It is a nice feeling for any actor to know that your film is selected to be screened at the Cannes. This is a second time for me. Earlier, it was Udaan in 2010 and the feeling is just great this time round too!”
Ugly which has Tejaswini Kolhapure and Ronit Roy in lead roles is produced by Phanton Films, a company run by Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane, Vikas Bahl and Madhu Mantena. It is co-produced by DAR Motion Pictures.
While the film is supposed to be a kidnap drama which deals with relationships, patriarchal system, how men look at women, domestic violence and many more things Ronit does not wish to speak much about it at this point of time, “Ugly is a thriller. I would say that it is a very sensitive, dark film and every role in the film is a complex. Talking of my just my role in the film out of context will not do justice to it” says Ronit.
When asked whether he will go to Cannes for the screening, Ronit says, “Of course I will try to go.
Anurag is a very, very good friend of mine, he is like family, like my very own brother and I will definitely want to go and support him. It will be a little bit of stress on the work front for me with all the shooting and telecast issues with Adalat but I hope it will work out.”
Ronit who is also in talks for couple of TV show offers that are coming his way says, “I do have something in hand but the chances of me doing it are 50 – 50. So, let’s see… I am also doing a reality show but cannot talk about it now as I am not in a position to let the cat out of the bag right now.”
Whatever your next move Ronit, currently it is time to say congratulations to you!
