Karan (Wahi) is the only guy in the industry who does not have any problem with my height: Aishwarya
Aishwarya Sakhuja aka Toasty of Sony Entertainment Television’s Saas Bina Sasural is quite happy to be back on TV after a yearlong health related absence. First, she made an appearance in one of the clusters of Life OK’s cookery reality show Welcome – Baazi Mehmaan Nawaazi Ki. And now she is all kicked to host Shriman Vs Shrimati on Star Plus along with Karan Wahi.
“It is great fun. The best part of this short season thing is that the teams are not really out to win; Nach had a very competitive streak. Here the idea is to have fun and entertain people. But having said that I will be rooting all the way for the girl’s team,” added she.
Aishwarya defines that the role of an anchor is very important, “He or she is the sutradhar (narrator) of the show. They also have to be nimble-footed to handle any situation for the creatives and producers can’t come on the stage and scream ‘cut’ if things go wrong. It is our job to ensure that the moods of the contestants remain chirpy as well.”
Ask her about co- anchor Karan and she says, “He is a dear friend. Karan is the only guy in the industry who does not have any problem with my height for he is taller than me (laughs).”
She refuses to comment on whether she and Karan will also shake a leg on the show or not, “Let’s see, may be ‘yes’ may be ‘no’.”
Aishwarya , who had to quit Saas Bina Sasural due to ill health felt sad that, “the show ended after she quit”. The makers (Optimystix Entertainment) actually wanted the story to go on but did not want to replace me hence they shut it down, and when any show is ended quickly, the plot goes haywire. But I had no alternative as doctors had asked me to take a break for a year.”
She also enjoyed doing Mehmaan Nawazi Ki. “It taught me a lot about handling reality shows. Before this I was cagey about taking part in them. But now I have learnt how to handle myself with dignity. ”
She accepted that this particular format had extra drama, “but it is needed as clusters change every week and you needed immediate masala (spice) to connect with the audiences. I will not say that it was scripted but yes they created situations and then it depended on you whether to be yourself or give them the content they required.”
Looking ahead Aishwarya says, “she wants to do a daily show again, but right now she is concentrating only on Shriman Vs Shrimati.”
“I am very bad at multi-tasking. So once it’s over, I will see if I get something really juicy.”
She would not mind taking part in the next season of Nach Baliye. “Please ask the producers to consider me”, ends this self-confessed average dancer.
There is also a strong buzz that Aishwarya will host Star Plus’ upcoming dance reality show, India’s Dancing Superstar.
