‘What I was promised didn’t happen’ – Indira Krishnan
We in talks with Indira Krishnan, veteran actress who is currently essaying the role of Ganga Devi in Afsar Bitiya on Zee TV. She is acting as Nitish Katara’s
Is it true that you want to quit Afsar Bitiya?
I feel there’s nothing much for me to do in Afsar Bitiya. My character on the show isn’t too well defined. I was positive. Then I became grey.
I don’t do a show for the money. All I want to do is good work. I am not saying that I want another Krishnaben Khakhrawala. It is just that I want a substantial role. I was told that things would improve. I waited very patiently for things to change. I have been doing this show for ten months now. However what I was promised didn’t happen. Nothing really substantial cropped up. Of late I have been shooting for Afsar Bitiya just for five days in a month.
I have been getting good offers. I was offered a good role in Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon on Colors. I was also offered a good role in Balika Vadhu. There are production houses which know and appreciate my calibre. I also got a good offer on Sony TV.
Now I am open to doing another show. I have given Afsar Bitiya’s producer Raakesh Paswan my notice. He is a very nice and understanding person. He has given me the green signal to do another show. He says that if I wish, I may do both Afsar Bitiya and another show simultaneously.
Please tell me about your role of Neelam Katara in an upcoming episode of Savdhaan India @ 11.
I am really honored to play Neelam Katara, mother of the late Nitish Katara. She is a role model. She has gone through so much of trauma to get justice. I watched a lot of her YouTube videos to prepare for this role.
How was it working with the Savdhaan India @ 11 team?
I think the team of Savdhaan India @ 11 is mind blowing. I really liked working with them.
The Nitish Katara case was one of honour killing. What do you think can be done to prevent honour killing?
I think people have become more aware of the crime of honour killing owing to the shows on TV. I think people are more aware than the Government on this topic. Rather than depending on the Government to do something on this, I think the common people should do something to stop honour killings. They should set up NGOs to help people and not sit back quietly and watch.
What kind of roles would you like to play?
I would love to play an IAS officer, corporate executive or a lawyer. I don’t want to play just a mother. I am not averse to doing even a negative role as long as it has substance. It would be great to be in Adaalat as K.D.Pathak’s opposition lawyer. I think Ronit Roy is a very good actor. I would surely like to co-star with him.
Are you open to doing reality shows?
I would love to do a cooking reality show- participate in it or anchor it. I love to cook vegetarian food- green vegetables, pastas and pizzas. I like cooking South Indian dishes. I can’t sing well. So I don’t think I will want to participate in a singing reality show. I think Bigg Boss is a show which has got very negative publicity. So, I wouldn’t like to be on Bigg Boss.
You have an adorably cute son. Will he be acting in TV shows in near future?
My son Anirudh does act at home. He is still a child, just four and a half years old. Teachers tell me that he loves to participate in events in school. He loves music and watching cartoons especially Chhota Bheem. However I am yet to decide if he will act in daily soaps in future.
