Now Mehek has turned into one confident party member – The Sanchi Janata party! Mehek is elated at the rate at which the students had begun supporting her friend. ‘You’ll soon have a group for yourself’ the friend chirps (I’m sure Mehek secretly harbours a love for gang-warfare, this is not the first time she’s advised Sanchi to have her own gang!)
‘If one’s intentions are just, then you will achieve what you want to’ Sanchi replies ‘I want to solve all the problems in the college…when I finish university, I want to leave behind nothing short of a legacy!’ A true idealist indeed!
Having arrived at the end of the day, Mehek mentions that she has to leave to meet a friend at a hostel. Sanchi decides to accompany her – it would be a good place to acquaint with the hostel girls and canvass for votes too!
Radha is exhilarated – she stares at the stacks of money in the suitcase. Obviously, they plan to pilfer some amount of it. They also exchange their views on using Indu’s help to get back the Mathur mansion.
Watching his conniving brother and sister-in-law, Sushil is not happy. Leaving behind the shoes he was polishing, he walks up to them and advices them not to cheat Indu out of his money. It goes without saying that he is subjected to a barrage of taunts and shunned by the duo.
Thereafter, Anita is called upon and ordered to put the suitcase away. The poor lady has to follow the commands, though she is entirely unhappy with everything – be it the deception and thievery or the way her husband was being treated.
The two friends are walking up to Ragini’s room, when Mehek informs Sanchi that Swetha had also shifted to the same room recently. Sanchi recollects that Swetha seemed quite tensed the previous day.
On reaching the room, they knock the door for a few times. However, the door is actually unlocked.
Pushing open the door, the girls enter the room slowly and are shocked to discover Swetha lying on the floor, unconscious.
Sanchi and Mehek instantly panic. They try their best to revive her. When their few attempts provide them no success, Sanchi advices Mehek to inform the warden and summon an ambulance immediately.
Indu and his confederates are busy carrying out frivolous tactics to make sure that their political intentions stayed loud and clear.
‘Wherever you see Sanchi’s poster…ensure my poster replaces hers..’ Indu orders, as his group continue scurrying around and fulfilling their leader’s orders.
However, soon after; their conversations are interrupted by the loud noise of sirens. Observing an ambulance enter the college grounds, Indu grows suspicious.
Barely a few moments on; the unconscious Swetha is wheeled out of the hostel in a stretcher, followed by the paramedical team and a concerned Sanchi.
Watching the entire escapade; Indu does not know what to make of the situation ‘She is trying her level best to evoke sympathy…to gain support for the elections…’ he tells himself ‘However, victory is still a long way away, Sanchi’
In the staff room, Janardhan is quite tensed. He realizes that substituting for the absence of the VC was no easy task. Watching Janardhan’s fretful behaviour, Shukla asks him the cause for it. Passing a few digs at Shukla, Janardhan angrily explains the entire situation at the hostel and how he had to rush to the hospital now.
While the unperturbed Shukla returns to lazing around with a newspaper, a student walks in to the staff room. She had been sent for by Janardhan to collect the details of the hospitalized girl
‘Shwetha Jha…2nd year B.COM’
This piece of information suddenly brings about a dramatic effect on the otherwise unmoved demeanour of Professor Shukla. Appearing very agitated, he hastily volunteers to join a puzzled Janardhan in his trip to the hospital.
Tensely pacing along the corridors of a glossy hospital, Sanchi, Mehek and the warden are swiftly joined by an anxious Janardhan and even more anxious Shukla.
They look up as the doctor approaches them
‘She had consumed poison…she tried to suicide’ the doctor reveals
The news makes everyone feel troubled, notably professor Shukla.
They unveil a large photo in Indu’s adda – an apt pose for a politician-to-be! He is dressed in a yellow kurta with trademark cooling glasses and his hands folded in a typical neta ‘namaste’.
‘Wow! Do I look handsome’ quips Indu ‘If only I’d realized this before, I would have forsaken politics for the film field…’
The entire room bursts out laughing in agreement
Lucky adds ‘You are unique bhaiyyaji… forget the campus…there would be no one to match your power even in the whole of Benaras…’
‘Yes…I’ve played such a game that Sanchi’s aspirations for the upcoming elections will be reduced to nothing.’ Blowing the skin off a few peanuts, Indu smirks aloud ‘Following up on sick students, helping people, caring for their problems etc are all good deeds, but not election-winners!’
The group bursts into an even louder round of laughter
‘By the way bhaiyyaji, who is that ill girl?’ Guddu asks inquisitively
‘You ask me like she is a relation of mine…now just be quiet and continue with your work…the elections are approaching’ Indu replies
Just as Indu concludes his sentence, his phone rings – Its a nervous Shukla on the other end.
‘There is a huge problem Indu…I have to meet you immediately’
‘Why do you sound so nervous…like as though you have a death warrant on you…’
‘If you don’t come to meet me in another half an hour, I’ll be good as dead’
Indu is confounded – he had no idea what his professor was talking about, but decides to go pay him a visit at their ‘usual’ meeting spot anyway.
‘Why did you do this’ the warden asks a now conscious Swetha
Sanchi joins in, voicing her support for the recuperating girl ‘You seem very tensed lately.. is something or someone troubling you…please tell me…’
Just then Shukla and janardhan walk into the hospital room. On noticing Shukla, Swetha’s expressions change to one of fear and dread. While Sanchi continues prodding the ailing girl to avail an answer, Swetha exchanges a few nervous stares with Shukla and then turns her face away.
It is but little surprise that the tell-tale Indian nurse waltzes into the room, ushering all the visitors out of the patients room ‘The patient needs to rest now’
Prancing around the dhabha in a handsome chocolate brown kurta; Indu finds himself losing patience at the no-show of professor Shukla.
Precisely then, a disturbed Shukla arrives at the scene ‘That girl who is in hospital now…’
Momentarily studying his professor’s frowns, Indu is amused ‘Guruji…if She is in hospital, why is your BP out of control?’
Taking in a few nervous gulps, Shukla proceeds to explain the mess he was in ‘Swetha had bribed me…you see, I promised her that I’d award her a ‘pass’ mark in the exams. However, it so happened that I could not keep up my end of the bargain. Now she failed in the exams…so she’s tried to commit suicide.’
Indu is taken aback by the revelation. He seems genuinely unhappy with his ally’s explanations. After all, Indu Singh is a man of his word ‘Guruji…you gave your word… you took the money too… and you didn’t fulfil your promise’ a displeased Indu rebukes him softly ‘Now suffer the consequences of your actions’
‘If she opens her mouth, I’ll be sent to jail…’ a nervous Shukla disputes ‘And this could affect you too… just imagine…Sanchi is there at the hospital…if she learns of the truth, she’ll raise a storm… and then your election dreams will also start crumbling!’
‘Stop uttering nonsense’ an irate Indu retorts ‘YOU enjoy..YOU screw up…and now you trap ME into this mess?’
‘What are you talking about? I didn’t use all of the money for myself…’ Shukla adds ‘Do you know…I gave you money for your election fund…some of the amount is from the money she gave me’
Indu is thoroughly frustrated by the entire incident ‘What? Looks like I have to talk to mamashri about this…’
Shukla becomes dizzy with worry. He mumbles to himself ‘This is a case of attempted suicide now… it could become a police case too…’
‘We should inform the police’ the doctor advices the warden
‘No..please…its a matter of a girl’s privacy…let’s respect that…first let’s find out whe she did and why she did so.. incase it was an accident’ the warden replies
‘This is not an accident’ the doctor refutes kindly, before leaving their company
Mulling on the doctor’s insight, Sanchi recalls ‘Swetha is so frightened…something is definitely wrong’
The warden observes Sanchi’s dilemmas and assures the caring girl ‘Someone will always remain with Swetha, so don’t worry…it’s very late now…you both go home…’
Lending her a few words of support, Sanchi then conforms to the warden’s counsel and the two friends make their way home.
Addressing a cornered Shukla, Tiwari repeats what Indu had told him, only adding a few legal terminologies to it. Additionally Tiwari irks Indu on purpose by reminding him of Sanchi’s involvement in the case ‘These days the police are quite vigilant when it comes to matters regarding women’ he adds ‘If the truth is out, you’ll be jailed for sure Shukla’
‘Why don’t we get an anticipatory bail now’ Shukla enquires in angst
Tiwari agrees to the idea and jots down a few sums to come up with a figure of 24-25,000 Rs. This amount seems to bring a halt to even Indu’s biscuit-nibbling venture!
‘You see I have to pay lots of bribes to many people now…starting right from the bottom to the top rung of the ladder’ Tiwari justifies himself ‘Besides, this case involves a girl’
Watching Indu and Shukla shift uneasily, Tiwari reminds them once again ‘So, you have to ensure she keeps her mouth shut and that nothing reaches the police’
I think Tiwari’s last words of guidance had a very serious impact on Shukla.
Eventually; as the tensed duo of Indu and Shukla leave the flat, Tiwari laughs to himself ‘Off late, my nephew seems to have become somewhat of a money-making venture for me!’
Precap: OMG Shukla is out of his senses..he is trying to suffocate Swetha with a pillow, but he leaves her alive…Swetha does not see her assailant.
