Chandragupta tells Mahamartya that he wanted to make him experience a prisoner’s life than just act as one. Mahamartya calls guard Patanraj and says king has sent this prisoner and ordered to make him work hard like other prisoners. Patanraj says he will love seeing young bones extracting gold. Mahamartya sees 5 prisoners being readied for execution and asks reason. Patanraj says they are useless to him, so he is executing them and orders guards to kill them. Chandragupta stops them and says he will work on their behalf and tells Chandragupta he is doing this to gain prisoners’ confidence. Patanraj says let us till when he will tolerate hardship. Mahamartya orders him to kill Chandragupta as he is the biggest hurdle for them and reminds his favors. Patanraj assures he will kill

Chandragupta soon. He warns 5 prisoners that they escaped death now, but will die soon unable to bear torture of this hell. Prisoners curse Chandragupta that he threw them in more hell by saving them. One of them says he is Dhuthdhwaj whose arms were very powerful, but now they are so weak that they can lift only a walker stick, he cannot bear his weight anymore. Chandragupta reminisces telling Dhuthdhwaj is the best warrior and best spearhead they have and everyone used to gain confidence from him.
